Firstly, Hello all. As of today, I own a 52 plate Terrano 2.7TD. The car didn't come with an owners manual and the odometer is reading in Kilometers. Is there any way I can change this to miles or does it need to be done by a dealer?

Thanks

Ross

Yes, its the one with the LCD mileage readout.

No, the car is a UK vehicle, new at first registration. It has MPH and no kph on the speedo but the odometer is reading in kms only. Very strange.

I have a Nissan dealer (service only) a few miles away, I'll go and try to pick their brains. Thanks for your assistance, I'll report back with my findings.

I don't think theres a dealer fix, its possibly a whole new display, but by all means check.

I'm assuming it was a parallel import - we've seen the odd MkII with a MPH dash and no KPH markings on the dial, but never seen this one I must admit.

You might ask here....

You could be correct on this one. It definitely says new at first registration on the V5 so its possible that its been a trailered import from Holland or something. The clocks have a blacked out "km/h" below the speedo and the odometer reads in Km. Hey ho, I suppose I can live with that as the truck is in very good nick.

I swapped it privately for my '98 BMW 535i with 112k on it and actually had no intention of keeping it. I did the swap as the BMW is a difficult car to sell for reasonable money and thought the Terrano would be an easier sale and probably worth a good bit more. Thing is, I actually quite like it so I'll probably keep it. I ordered my service stuff from Milners last night so I'll treat it to new filters and an oil change this weekend.

I think I got a fairly good deal, all the old MOTs tally up in Kms to a total mileage of 48000 miles.

Because these trucks were built close by in Spain, and for a lot of r/h drive markets around Europe, there were a lot of parallel imports sold in the UK by outfits like Trade Sales in Slough and Motorpoint, but lots of others too. I bought one myself in 2000 from Trade Sales, and since they were built with a 3-year pan-European warranty it was easy to register them on the UK database for warranty purposes. Lots of Patrols came the same route - TS used to have loads of them regularly on their site.

You'll find they often have odd specs that don't match UK-supplied model types (my previous one was an SE with aircon and sunroof plus automatic gearbox, a mix that was apparently not an original UK spec) - my insurance company queried it first time round but gave up in the end fortunately!

Sounds that device I pointed you at might be your only option, unless you can get a whole head unit from a breakers? But as they are known for failing regularly (the mileometer stops working usually) if you find one, jump on it.

when you service it check the oils in the dif.. worth changing it if you can, just to make sure they got the LSD oil in the back one..

Oh and the early ones were TDs (no intercooler) - yours is a TDi.

If you want a bit more power check the threads here on Tunit - should take the existing 125bhp up to around 145-150 at a cost of £400 if new, or £260 for a factory refurb (Tunit II is the one you want). makes a big difference.

And a K&N induction kit (57i) makes it run a tad smoother and slightly more responsively and should give you an extra 2mpg, paying for itself in about ten tankfulls. :thumbs

And if you are playing with your spanners, check out the bushes on the front ARB and droplinks, they often go and can cause a bit of clankling - cheap and cheerful from Milners and a very easy replacement.
