odd running problem

Hi Guys,

I am waiting to recieve a new ignition barrell, switch and keys. I have a problem when trying to start the maverick, but this new switch should fix that HOWEVER I have had this odd problem since getting the car. When idle, it can sometimes "jump", sort of rev up and level back again, randomly. Well, now a couple of odd things have happened, last night it just cut out, and this morning it "jumped" while driving, which it has never done before. Now what I mean is it seems to rev up a bit, as opposed to feelign like its going to stall, what could this be? Its the only niggle I have with the car, and I really want to fix it without having to pay a mechanice hundreds of pounds to diagnose it!

p.s. i havent adjusted idle yet, which is something i meant to do, if the sensor was out, woudl that cause this sort of issue?

Well my switch caused some odd things to happen until I replaced it but doubt it's the same as yours.
If the revs increase and then decrease whilst on tickover I would of suggested Air con clicking in and out.

Wonder if it's a combination of these two?

its not air con, i dont have air con. if anything, the weird problem gets better if at idle i rest my foot on the pedal a bit to increase revs, it doesnt seem to "hunt " then. although, if there is a ignition switch problem, could that cause the car to stall?

also we changed the live lead to the starter and earths new switch

think he had a new maf too
