not starting again !!!

had a problem with poor starting on my 2.7 tdi due split diaphram in fuel priming pump . well replaced that running like a dream since then . 3 weeks ago ....

wife goes to take kids to school yesterday morning just kept turning over and would,nt start. gets me out of bed ! ( am on nights ) i try to start until flatten the battery .

i had to push truck off out of the way to get the old faithfull renault out of the drive. then went back to bed .

recharged battery on myself and truck, put battery back on , still same just kept turning the engine over and would'nt start.

checked all the basics electrics / fuel . all present. now completly stumped .
called up my local mechanic who came out with jump leads and still no joy.

connected circuit tester (the type that connects to battery) to glow plug circuit and hey presto the thing fires up after a struggle .

disconnects the circuit tester and try to start ,and won't start .

he recons problem with the ignition switch says quite common with these .

anyway took truck to his garage for his auto electrian to confirm .
hopefully will get sorted

could very well be ignition switch-had to change mine. try this, turn the key EVER SO SLOWLY....i mean snail slow, and see if it engages....

the contacts have burnt out, so there is ONLY a little left...

starter motor does engage and spins over well , but think must be the contacts on ignition on point just before the next one to start the engine . took the truck to his garage now . luckily really decent chap and trustworthy so hopefully should'nt be too much

thats right then, contacts, mine did the same, burnt out. bought a second hand one off ebay.

Mine went in Spain, but it wouldn't turn the starter motor over at all. Had it fixed by a local garage near Malaga - 35€ for the switch, 38€ labour.

My ignition switch went knackered, to start with I just got away with shaking the key but eventually it got to where it would not run at all. Part was very cheap, only a few quid from Nissan and it fits to the back of the barrel with two screws.

Dont think this is your problem though as your engine turns over... when my switch went everything went dead

i know the barrel isn't great cause you can take the key out when running , also a few times you can hear the audible noise of the glow plug starter timer , sometimes when i turn the ignition off

well garage just brought truck back new barrel ,(well electrical side) fitted fired up straight away , hopefully now sorted:thumb2 wallet £90 lighter

Ouch! Its a simple DIY job at much less cost than that, but sometimes you need your sleep more!

just what i thought , tbh i would have never suspected barrel , so sometimes just have to bite the bullet .

oh no!!!!!!! still having problems starting from cold ,eventually starts up to a bloom of smoke , some days ok some not ? i have noticed a bang after starting sounds like a flap or sonething arond the turbo area ?
garage stumped so they are getting a diesel specialist to look at it tomorrow , i think its a combination of things . strange thing is once it does start runs fine and starts no problems all day

i normally like sorting / faultfinding with cars but this one is doing me head in :doh so let someone with more experience sort it , could do without the expence this time of year , but a small price for my sanity :thumbs
