Spurred on by the easy to follow instructions on changing the fuel filter on my Terrano, I finally had the courage to do it myself but just knew something would go wrong.
The change went swimmingly but when all was done the 'water in fuel' light was on when I checked the dash. Now I've checked the other responses which can vary somewhat.
Soooo has anyone out there got the definitive answer or is there a reason that is most probable for this to occur when changing the fuel filter?
Thanks in advance.

Open the valve on the filter and let it drain out of the bottom and then shut again again and prime it with the plunger until it goes firm.

Then take it for a good run, mine had this when I did mine but cleared after a few miles down the motorway

Could also be that you forgot to re connect the wire:doh

Or that the connection needed cleaning.

Or the wire has a break in it. :naughty

Either way, it wont stop the truck running and if you know there is no water in there :thumbs

If all is working, then it's just an extra bulb illuminating the dash, the bulbs that are supposed to do this blow all the time, so don't moan about getting an extra one. :D

Yeah the wire's definitely connected and I haven't given the wires any stick so probability says it's not a break and it runs great so think it's just a glitch, I'll let you know when I find out it'll add to the knowledge base.

Give up

Right I gave her a good run and light stayed on fiddled about a little more with no results so finally disconnected, and it's staying that way.
Thanks for the advise everyone but I think I'm better off without sensor.:nenau
