Yesterday we thought we would go & have a look at some caravans so there we were driving down the A1 & there was a really loud bang/pop on the O/S/R of the truck:eek: at first I thought something had been kicked up off the road & hit the side of the truck when we heard it again:confused: so switched off the stereo & came off the A1 (luckily it was the turning I wanted anyway) then all I could smell was burning:eek: jumped out & folded the back seat down & there was my amp smoking away so quickly pulled out the sub box & removed the amp off it & put it on the damp grass. luckily the amp didn't go up in flames but when we got home I opened it up & 2 transistors are badly burnt & 1 had exploded which would have been the bang/pop we heard so now got to get a new amp as the stereo sounds crap now without the much needed bass from the sub:doh So far all the good make of amps i've looked at are either lower powered or a lot more powerful & if I go for more power i'll have to replace all my wiring & still turn the amp gain down as i'll cook the sub:doh why couldn't the thing hang on for another year when i'll have more money to redo the boot build & poss fit 2x 10" or 12" subs:(

Crap.... I saw this woe yesterday

Always picks it's moments... :doh

Oh it does the inside of the truck was stinking for about an hour, left all the windows down a bit as you can't tell their open with the wind deflectors:thumb2 whilst we looked at caravans which were all out of our price range & then drove home with my window fully down. Seen 2 amps I quite fancy in my price range both 350w RMS which will prob need the wiring up grading but there is a good chance that sort of power into my 10" sub will fry it as it's only 200w RMS so might have to mod the enclosure & fit my 12" sub in which is rated at 225w RMS which stands a better chance of living a bit longer before I cook it:lol have seen a second hand amp on ebay but it'll depend on what the price shoots up to as it's a high end job:augie

I know very little about these power outputs ect but surely you should buy the right one to avoid this happening again  :nenau

big amp into lower speakers is ok,just do not max it out.the more power the cleaner the signal and sound.
