Hi guys, this is on behalf of a friend that works at the same place as me and works awkward shift patterns. He’s struggling for time as he goes on holiday very soon so I offered our help. Hopefully he may join our club when life has settled down a little.

1996 Mav 27TDi

In the previous week to this funny things started happening. Firstly the clock and radio just went dead and the remote locking just stopped working too!? Then ,probably the day before it wouldn't start, i was getting a loudish clicking noise from behind the dash??? I'll double check I'm getting fuel thru but I'm convinced its the immobilizer thats stopping it!!??

The immobiliser does not have any relay associated with it so have no idea what the loud clicking could be , Rick

Jim, just a thought...
I had similar symptoms a week after I got my Patrol.
Have your friend check the main supply cable from alternator to positive on the battery.
Right at the battery clamp, my cable had corroded almost all the way through, all but for a few strands. Because of the sheathing, I hadn't seen it.
The clicking may be a momentary contact.

First I am certain no maverick was fitted with Nats, just a std immobiliser,
I would start by disconnecting the battery to allow full discharge on car, then while you wait check & clean all earth points as well as battery live , the clicking may be from one of the relays in engine bay or even the the ones by right knee, funny sometimes how sounds bounce around the car.

you could try some easy start i have had same problem in the past on the terranos i have had in the past and it seems to reset something as once it started i never had the problem come back and it seems to work also is there any codes present if so try clearing them

Mav96, my off road Mav has a chipped key and accepts a plip 433Mh is that not NATS? Rick

Not to my limited knowledge, NATS = Nissan Anti Theft System which includes the alarm & more, chipped keys are now common to most cars, the plip is just remote lock & unlock with engine immobilser. NATS being a Nissan thing & the Maverick being Ford so was not included. That was how it was explained to me when I first got my Maverick. I could be wrong & would :bow to those who know better.

I will have to investigate if my Mav has the horn in the rear, Rick
