For a few weeks now i have been getting what i thought were the tyres rubbing on the bumper in reverse on full lock , today how ever the sound was more metal crunching sound and when i dipped the clutch it stopped it also stopped if i let the clutch right up the sound is only there when on the bite point well just after the bite point if that makes sense. Question is, is the clutch on the way out or will the oil just need changing. It only does it in reverse.

I would live with it, how long do you reverse for, if like most, not very long.
It could be the thrust bearing, as long as it's quiet going forward, then just leave it

don't think its the thrust bearing, my thrust bearing has rattled for a while this is a completely different sound

is this since you done the lift steve ? , or any other recent mod ?

How many miles has your truck covered as IIRC the clutches are normally good for around 110-120K

If it only does it in reverse then it cannot be clutch related unless you restart your engine the opposite way in order to reverse, :augie, Rick

any ideas what it could be if it's not the clutch?

reverse layshaft bearing in box, sorry mate, but could last ages if you try and limit reversing and when you do,do so nice and gentle, Rick

There is a very slim chance that it could be prop UJ with rusted rollers on the lag side when driving forward so only coming into play when in reverse, so worth dropping the rear prop and checking, any roughness on either UJ replace it, lots cheaper than a box, Rick

yes box out job, and lots more bits are likely to be required, you are much better getting a rebuild from a recognised box builder, there are so many aspects of a box that if not right will cause early failure, nothing like an engine which is simple in comparison, Rick

You mention ...on full lock, does it do it not on full lock? as steering stops can graunge even in reverse:thumb2

As I said before, just live with it, if it's fine going forwards....which is 99% of most vehicle travel, leave it.

When you do reverse, then do as Rick said and go nice and steady, it could go on for years.
Can you do a video of this so we can have a gander.

unfortunately it does it no matter where the steering wheel is, i thought it was only doing it on full lock as i reverse around a corner every day

for now i will just have to use it as is, i cant afford to get it repaired just yet, i really do need to sort it though i cant afford for it to pack up on me as i need the truck to take my daughter to see her liver specialist which is a 3 hr drive from us

If it sadly does turn out to be a box issue replace the clutch at the same time:augie
