Hi all,
This morning I got in my Terrano 2.7 TDI year 2000 , started as usual but as I went to pull away I couldn't turn the steering wheel

About 3-4 seconds later, the steering suddenly loosened to normal and was fine for the rest of the journey to work - although during the entire journey, I was poised to soil my underwear at a moments notice if the fault returned whilst doing 60mph along the bypass . I should add at this point that this reaction is a defense mechanism which Pembrokeshire people have evolved so that in times of crisis they can constructively deal with any situation which is deamed out of ones control.

Eight hours later at home time, I started her up ........... the fault didn't come back.

Any ideas? should I panic?

First thought, slipping belt on the pump.
Could the belt have got wet overnight?

Check the belt tension.

Muscle Steering

If your power steering packs up once you are doing about 20 mph or above you will hardly notice its at parking speeds it becomes really heavy.

Even my Missus managed to drive our old Vauxhall Carlton home when the PAS belt broke!
It was the last 20 feet turning into our driveway that freaked her !
