No Horn!

guys,....my horn has stopped working!

so, i push the steering wheel, nothing happens. So How am i supposed to blast other drivers now?

anyways, I checked the fuse, all good, checked the relay,. can hear it clicking, so thats good too. The horns themselves are plugged in, one is new, one is old, whats the probably cause here??

theres not much in a horn circuit, push-swich, relay, horn wire, thats about it, so it could be connectors

Check the horns themselves by running a live cable from the + battery terminal and the other to a known good earth i.e. no paint, or to the battery - terminal, if they work at least that will eliminate them.
 
ahh, cheers chaps for the ideas, ill try the live terminal idea, im suspecting bad connections as suggested above, as truck hasnt really been doing much at all lately, so perhaps some damp has set in..
 
It's been my experiance that lack of use allows corosion to build up inside the horn, if it's a sealed unit then replacement is called for.
The answere is: use it or loose it LOL.
 
guys, just a quick note on this (ha ha). I actually got round to testing the horns today, nothing. I am getting a click from the relay, but no noise from either horn.

I have attempted to test each one via the battery i have in my shed, but again, nothing, but my battery may be low on charge perhaps.as I am getting a click at the relay, is it probably that both norns are faulty? One horn has been on the car since i got it, and the previous one that failed was the same type, I replaced that with a disc horn and now that seems to have died.

should I try test them again, or just go to Wilco's and buy two new ones?

when I look on line, some twin packs of air horns come with a relay, so thats confused me, I thought i could just direct replace my existing units?

any ideas??:bow
 
Unless your relay is u/s you don't need a new one, replacement horns are sometimes supplied with a relay to enable them to be used where previously only a single horn was fitted, this may not have had a relay. The relay is simply an electrically operated switch, so the horn button only closes the contacts in the relay i.e. low current flow and lightweight cable. The relay contacts take the supply from the battery/alternator to the horns, high current flow and heavier cable, so if you have only one small horn a relay may not be necessary, but two snail-type (or the original Nissan horns) pull a high current so a relay is necessary.
You should be able just to replace your two horns, the relay is already fitted and you don't need another.

thanks for that, I think ill just get two new snails from Wilco tomorrow, im fairly confident that the wiring and relay are working...cheers!
 
well, all I needed was two new horns! went to Wilcos and got a hi/low set, £7.99 each so not cheapest but they are much louder and sound good.
 
no, quite loud. i got low and hi, and its a nice pitch, like a train....
 
That's are the type I fitted to mine, much better than the weedy sounding things fitted by Nissan :thumb2
