Hi everyone,
My '99 Terrano has always been a good starter, untill yesterday. It started ok in the morning but later I noticed that the glow plug light was not working and of course the engine would'nt fire. I would be grateful for any advice.

All fuses are good. I have unplugged the coolant temperature plug on the engine and carried out an ohms check. The sensor is reading open circuit. According to information I have found on this excellent site the ohms reading should be around 4 ohms with a cold engine. Therefore I think I will fit a new sensor. Am I talking rubbish ? I would value your opinion.

Sounds like you may have solved it.
If you leave it unplugged and turn the key on does the glow plug light come on then, I know with mine unplugged the light will stay on a lot longer and when it starts up it runs rough until warm, this will put the engine check light on .

glow plugs

Theres a relay on the off side wing by the side of the battery.(best to remove the battery) check burnt contacts (AMP tags) this relay carrys 80 amps for the glow plugs and can burn out.

Bob,
As I see it, I think if the relay was the problem then the glow plug light would still come on, as it’s switched on by the ecu separate to the relay. Mine failed last year and the light was still coming on.
