:doh
The crappy Nissan steering mechanism got right up my chuff today:doh
I rebuilt the whole front end again this week and was full of hope this morning:)
However by lunch time those ruddy track rod ends were up to their tricks again:eek:
I had so much movement in the drag link that the nuts were catching on the underside of the chassis:doh
So now I'm going to make my own:sly
Going for a new stainless rod instead of the drag link. Then make a ruddy great swivel to bolt it directly onto the steering box arm. At the end of the swivel(imagine a long bolt) I'll stick a rose joint and then the track rod from that to the wheel hub using my Massey Ferguson monster track rod end:thumbs
Duplicat on the other side and bobs your fanny's aunt:cool:
That'll get rid of 4 ball joints and keep the wheels pointing where I want them.
I hope:naughty

Right just back from the man with the lathe:rolleyes:
We're going to use the existing drag link for simplicity and meaness:augie
Also means if anyone else wants to seriously beef up the "steering slop" I can oblige:sly

bolts hitting the chassis... thats a lot a play. ive only had that much when the idler is bent

but i keep saying it

there is only one way to fix the steering

I know that Col. but it's the rest of the linkage not just the idler:augie
I'm with you on the steering box though but thats just beefing up the idler. The slop I'm suffering from is then the drag link "swiveling" up under load. It's fine on the road but get in the ruff and ouch:doh

Found out why it's hitting the chassis, the broody drag link is pissed. Must have been fitted like that by some twat garage:doh

So fitting my new super kit now:sly

wow.... now i have never seen that before. thats some serious bend....

now , as i cant see that was always bent otherwise it would have always hit your chassis. so is it worth considering that now the idler is super tough. perhaps this is the next weak point... as adz once mentioned as you toughen one part it shows up the next weak bit

dumb question but WTF you been doing to it

Well I do like a bit of wellie:slyair time:naughtyand er donuts:lol
There's quite a lot of marking on the chassis and I've checked it out and there is no way any movement in the link ends:augie
Just seems to have been made wrong and then as the balls have worn too then the movement was way too much:doh
