hmm...i cant seem to post my videos like i used to...hold on...

I've only just climbed up to W7
Have you got any media pc recomendations ?

media pc? Windows 7 works as a Media Centre just fine, or are you asking about the hardware?

Hardware. I'm changing my old windows xp PC that was storing and playing 80gb of music and assorted video.
It's accessed upstairs via media streamer into the hifi.
It's now a bit slow and doddery so want a mega fast replacement. It'll just be doing that job basically.:thumbs

what do reckon to ssd hdd, would speed up boot time too?

prices are falling, thinking might put one in my acer lappy if
hdd fails.

in that case, consider building your own. £250 will buy you a Phenom 6 or 8 core cpu, mainboard, 8-16Gb ram etc, whack it in case and off you go,..

the laptop in the video is 128Gb SSD.

Installation of Windows 8 took about 20 mins via cd..

Is boot up time that important :augie

Windows 7 can be made to be very quick. Mine at home is only 15 seconds, but my hardware is a bit old. Get an SSD for the boot, cost about i dont know, £90 ish i think, and use that for your OS/Media centre, put the music and video on a fast hard drive with lots of cache ram built in and youll have a very fast pc for little money.

Windows 8 isnt that expensive, as you can see in the video, boot up time is hardly worth blinking at.

I got an Asus with 8 installed, found it hard at first, but now I have tuned it for me it is great, stopped all the crap accessing the net by deleting it all and I unplug my dongle when shut down as it stays connected otherwise, my connection counter showed this up with the number of hours last on line, 35 ffs cant stay awake that long let alone be key bashing, but on the whole nice system, Rick
