Hi All

Ok
When I got my Auto Terrano Diesel it was OK. but has got gradually worse in the mornings or when first started.

STarts on first turn, but has no power. foot to floor and it would take 20 seconds to rev. If I drove it like that it was nearly half a mile before I got any speed.

I had put through 2 tanks of WVO with a bit of rug and a ceaten improver but while it was cold I always had real diesel in it.

Have changed the fuel filter and had no change. Then the water pump went so I got my garage to change that and while they were at it to take the mini filter out and clean it..... Only to be told. it was not in there......

Any suggestions as to what to try next or should I get rid of it now........

Cheers Gary

WVO :doh how well was it filtered? You could have knackered the pump, bunged up injectors or simply need to change the filter again.
Are your glow plugs and timer solenoid ok ?

hmmm...have you read the codes-does the MiL come on when it struggles to rev? Air filter, have you changed that? MAF, check that, might need a new one...

personally, id check the codes regardless, see if there is any history in there. Id also consider the pedal-could be a position sensor issue..

The WVO is very well filtered... Down to 1 micron.

You could have knackered the pump?
Hope not

Hmmm. What injectors would I need. Looked on ebay a while back and there were loads of different ones..... cheap to bloody expensive.... Bet mine are the expensive ones

Not sure about glow plugs. Hopefully Garage would of checked them already... but will call them in morning to check.

DOH... Whats a time solenoid......... lol

No codes show at all. will have to wait till I get the car back to try and read the codes.... Mind you Garage might be able to do that.

Air filter, have you changed that?
Yes

MAF, check that, might need a new one...
I have another sitting here besides me.... but again, will have to wait till I get the car back.

GP timer solenoid keeps the GPs on for a few minutes till the engine temp is up. If that's gooosed then it will run lumpy for several minutes.

ahhh ok, looks like a lot "rides" on getting the car back!! lets see how things are when you have it, and take it from there? Otherwise its just a big guessing game.

just been reading about the diesel bug thing in the sticky..... could that be a problem with mine.... Cos If I think back to when I changed the filter out I did have some bloody yukky black gunk in bottom of filter......

its possible, but rare I believe. More common in boats etc. I'd have thought the gunky crap is down to the WVO though, and the mess it has dredged out of your tank and pipes maybe..certainly worth looking into though :thumbs

could well be it needs very serious chemical treatment, as it grows something chronic if conditions are right, and blocks filters quicker than you can change them, Rick

Well. I think for the cost of Marine 16 stuff £7.99 I will get a bottle and whack it through......... Mind you, that is when I get the car back lol

Ahh, that explains somthing I was wondering:clap, there's 1 click when the glowplugs go off when the light goes out, then a few minuits later there's another click, that'll be the 2nd relay going off when the timer module tells it too.....all makes sense now

I'm only filtering WVO down to 25 microns is that not enough?

Sheesh, that's like passing it through an old sock :lol
I'm not expert on this but the guy we buy from does 1 micron filtered. Some car filters only go to 10 microns but it's good practice to look after your pump and injectors

Pass it through again mate to 10 then warm it and do it to 1 :thumb2

Black gunky stuff in the filter/tank could also be glycerine.

This is the stuff that drops out of the bottom of BIO diesel after making it from veg oil.

If it has not been sufficiently well made or rushed and some is left in there a small bit can drop out later. If you have no small banjo filter in the IP I would suspect previous owners have run it on veg/BIO

Could need a full tank and line clean out if so.

I only use WVO and not bio, so deff not my doing but could very well be the case. Whats the best way of doing a tank clean and line clean.... Is it a case of draining it all out.... or just running some additive through.....

Here are some pics of my WVO set up
