Hi all I’m new to 4x4s so thought I would get on here and show my project and hopefully there is plenty of knowledge here that can help me out. I’ve just got a 2005 terrano and it has a small rust issue that I’m planning on fixing.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues and managed to find replacement panels or just made their own

Welcome then mate with that kind of rust on an 05 hope you did not pay more than £200 for it, Rick

I paid nothing for it had a friend owe me so I got this got a friend with a garage we’re going to rip all the back out and get welding and plate it up I’m going to use it for getting away on long weekends stick a bed in the back if I don’t want to wild camp in Scotland

Welcome aboard and I’ve been there done that and bought the tee shirt, as said doable.
I cut out the rot to good metal and simply made plates and welded in. Elty on here has a project thread with photos of how he fabricated a complete boot floor amd wheel arches.
Whilst you are in that area on that year of truck check the rear spring top mounting on the chassis, they rot but can be fabricated. Probably easier to do by cutting boot floor and replacing from above.

Yea good read that plenty of tips there for me on the arches I’m planning on getting it all sorted over a couple of days I will take lots of pictures of the progress as I start chopping it all apart [emoji1787]

Just thought I would share a little update on it only got about 3h in yesterday and got these patched up I will get the back played on Sunday hopefully but we will need to drop the tank out for that as it’s got a small fuel leak

Blimey, that rot makes me feel good about a rusty edge I found today under the fuel pump access plate on my '97 Terrano.

Oh it’s been fun that’s for sure.
Apart from this in the rear it has a small hole in the wheel arch at the front and everything else is solid should get a good few more years out of it from all this.

It’s probably going to ask like a dumb question but does anyone know where I can get gear knob and 4wd knob from

I should have both in my store some place, but have to wait a while as done my back at the mo so inactive, Rick

Ok that’s great I appreciate it I’m in no rush just get better I have a bad back also doesn’t give me much trouble anymore I usually lift something really heavy like a washing machine or something and it stops it from hurting oddly [emoji848]
Just no idea where gears are or 4wd system lol [emoji23]

Just a bit of progress today just need to do the arch where the filler neck is and a small hole in the engine bay arch and its time for under seal and I think I’m going to do all 3 belts and it sounds like possibly needs a injector then time to turn it into a mini off road camper for trekking through Scotland [emoji2528]

well been busy with work so not had much time managed to get the other arch welded up and have started to insulate the floor. I will hopefully manage to get more done at the weekend

Yea ended up using 3mm plate welding the full length around and both arches but it all turned out pretty good. A lot easier because I’m not keeping any of the seats in if I was it would of been a lot harder as the seat belt mounting points were knackered
