hello, just got my first Terrano, a 55 plate 2.7 5-door that sadly has no owners manual. It drives very well but after stopping and taking the key out a warning light showing a car outline with a key inside starts blinking red rapidly. One key fob locks/unlocks the central locking fine, while the other key seems to have a dead battery so only works the ignition and door when the car is already unlocked.

I have searched and searched, but not found the owners manual online, although there are two on ebay from 1999 and 2000, around £20 each. Apologies for asking such a low-grade question, but what's up with the red light ! And can I find instructions for replacing the battery in the dead fob somewhere please, or is it ebay time.

thanks,

Simon

Click on quick links at the top right of the screen. Then look at downloads, youll finds links to manual and also a workshop to recode the key fobs as well as loads more.
How about a photo of your warning light?

Welcome mate, I only know up to 98 but sure someone with a later model will be along soon with the info you need, Rick

Forgot to mention, when I got a later model truck one of the fobs didnt work. I bought a replacement battery only to find out someone had replaced the battery and fitted wrong way around so worth a check.

Just a thought, the flashing light isnt just a alarm light that comes on when ignition is turned off is it?

Hi Simon, welcome :thumb2

I second what Jim says, click on quick links next to the log out button, then its the 3rd one down, club promos and downloads, it's a gold mine of info bud :D

Also........how about some pics of your truck :D:D

Hi Simon and welcome :thumb2

The red car symbol with the key in is totally normal, if you look above where your seat belts are anchored to on the B pillar you'll see above it a plastic cover with a wire mesh front, underneath there you have ultrasonic sensors that trigger the alarm should motion be detected or a change in air pressure.

If you press the button on the dash behind and below the window wiper stalk whilst the key is not in the ignition, you will see that Icon go solid red and if you listen closely you will hear the sensors buzz for a short period of time as they power down. You should use this button if you ever need to lock the car and leave animals or passengers inside etc as it will stop the alarm going off.

Swap the battery in that fob and follow the guide here;

However be aware that if you do enter the programming sequence, the NATS module will forget all keys it knows and ALL will have to be re-coded, don't be put off by this, it's a very simple job to do and very satisfying when you have it working.

Owners manual can be found here;

Banshee, thank you - the wife was driving it this morning and seemed strangely stressed out, that will make her much happier. After having a 15-yr old P38 Range Rover I stopped caring about warning lights a long time ago !

:lol

Banshee has it:thumb2 spot on description pal.
I use the button every time I lock it with the sunroof open otherwise the alarm sounds:thumbs
Haven't had issues with fobs yet. I did a flip conversion too with no problems.

Thank you everyone, I admit I smiled when the 'great value for a tenner' point was made, but in truth I was sold on joining after reading through the recent epic thread on changing the clutch plate. It was never going to make sense to pay a scalper £20 for a manual and not join this !

We are moving house this week to somewhere a bit rural (hence the new Terrano) so please excuse me being slow on some pics of the truck. Honestly, there is nothing to see apart from some dog hairs, which is a little too-good-to-be-true - it's a 60k miles virgin, on the face of things anyway. I got it from a dealer in Reading who had it part-ex from a customer in Devon, and was surprised by the calls he was now getting from Zimbabwe.

I hope it's a year or two before I am posting pics of the gas torch and mallet...

Cheers,

Simon
