hi guys just got my car back from garage as it was running very sluggish its 1.9td in my fiat know about basics on diesels but does this seem to add up, firstly it ran with no acceleration so i changed the air mass sensor bit better but still no pull it then started to bellow loads black smoke just as the turbo was about to kick in on every road so i took it to my local garage who said turbo had given up re con £360 new £800 so re con it was , once fitted they said it pulled better but still not right saying it has little turbo boost , they then looked at the kat which was clogged then back box , bingo my acceleration was back they said all the soot & smoke had choked the kat & back box , it now ran great at this stage but my engine man light still on then the guy said i will check egr valve which turned out to be chocked up sooty so he fitted another turned off the engine man light & since its never come on since 200 miles ago , he said all of this was caused by the previous owner being disabled 2 to 3 miles tootling to corner shop he said once a week give it a good blast it wont give any more probs... hope he,s right so far runs brill oh & the bill £740 week before xmas :doh

Yep, sounds about right. If you only drive em slow they end up with no go. You got to give em a blast every now and again to clean them out.

I dare say you could of banged a few tins of Redx in and give it a good thrashing on the motorway first, but i could of blown the exhaust to bits.

prob was they was so little power left i couldnt thrash it, it barely pulled off the drive without staling anyway thanks for reading pleased its pulling well again.. once or twice a week usually 2nd or 3rd let it have a clear out now as he said modern engines hate plodding

nice one, id have done the EGR valve FIRST though, £5 job diy, its very common on the JTD just blank it off.

just for future reference clivvy, how do you go on with an m.o.t if you blank egr valve off ? ..heard few people mention they often run better blanked off but wondered about emmisions etc ...also didnt realise its common on jtd as you mentioned , far too many bloody electronics on cars today sensors everywhere just more to go wrong in my view
