When I picked up our used Jeep a few weeks ago there was a bit of a diesel smell but as Garage had replaced the fuel filter as part of the "Free Service" prior to collection I ignored it.

I did ring the Garage I bought it from a few days later to express concern, they were very good about it bloke said run it over and their workshop will remove the engine cover & they will wash off any excess fuel. As I have been busy made an appointment for them to look at it this morning.

The top of the filter was found to be swimming in diesel as the seal at the top connection point was leaking! I casually said well does the filer not come with a new seal then (I know Merc Parts Departments usually sell both as a mater of course) - no he says aftermarket parts do not include it.

Now have to take it back in a couple of days time to get it fitted. Good job it not to far from Derby to Rugely. Just shows why I used to do my own servicing not just to save money but to be sure the work was done right.

Seems most garage fitters are not worth their money, Rick

You are right Rick I have seen so much bad practice over the years.

I was horrified when I worked at local MB Dealership to see brake calipers hanging from the brake hoses when replacing discs!

I blame bonus schemes for some of it.

Fuel filter update

Went over again today to have the new fuel filter seal fitted, turns out the filter they fitted had a fault on the sealing face. Waited about 45 mins for a new filter to arrive all fitted and sorted !!

Just need to get it undersealed with Body Shultz with added Waxoyl and she is ready to hand over to the Missus.

I then get the old WJ to potter around in.lol The sacrifices we make eh.....lol

Next Job list for Jeep WK Grand Cherokee

Booked in for Wednesday for underbody Shultz treatment with added waxoyl. My days of doing my own are over. £50 labour I thought quite reasonable.

Did a full brake fluid change yesterday, with wheels removed (assisted by a friend) saw rear pads are in need of replacement, rear discs are badly pitted /rusted. Front discs well worn so plan a full set of discs all round in the next couple of weeks.

I might look at new flexi hoses all round depending on what local garage advise me. That should be it hopefully before the official handing over ceremony.
