SAT NAV

NICE ONE RBRT
JUST TO START THE BALL ROLLING.
I use a TomTom one The Derbyshire lanes are recorded onto it to help navigate , BUT as you will have experanced if you were on the DERBYSHIRE HEATHER DAY .it (SALLY SAT NAV ) likes to take me to the wrong end of lane sometimes :p hence the U turns :p
GOOD JOB SHEILA IS KEEPING AN EYE ON "SALLY".

I've been amusing me passengers lately curtosy of Mrs Nokia St. Nav.....
Seemed like a good idea when I upgraded my phone I got the N82 which inc. onboard sat nav. On the proper roads its brill and good walking round strange towns too. BUT go onto "shortest route" mode and she gets into a right state and no mistake. I've been down loads of closed roads,no through roads, missing bridges, footpaths and the odd field!
It's much better than the telly, mind you I'm seldom home in time since she's been in the car
On a more serious note it's unlikely to get nicked as it's out of the car with me as soon as I get anywhere. I've got used to the small screen size but don't realy watch it so much as listen anyway.
I'm also using it's MP3 player function so I don't get skippy music off road.
While it's plugged into the head unit the handsfree function comes through the speakers too.
So it's all in one little package.

I have a cheapy satnav from Asda,a Binatone! it's ok but have to watch the settings when i have the caravan on as it has a tendency of sending me up one track lanes and dead ends.
And doesn't seem to update anywhere??
In the back i have two dvd screens on the headrests connected to a dvd player which has av input ports so i can connect the ps2.
Need to get something to tidy up the cables though..
This keeps the kids happy on long journeys..

Oh and a Midland 78+(400ch) cb with twin stingers!
And a handheld Amatuer radio and two pmr radios for gate openers!

I have now got a TomTom One Exprorier  up till now it's been great but have found it'll try & take you on all the magor roads
iandouglas how do you get lanes onto the TomTom as I haven't worked it out yet
Anyway in my T2 i'm running a Sony head unit which powers the stanard tweeters in the front doors & a set of JBL 6" 2way speakers in the front doors, at the rear it I have a 800w SPLX amp feeding a set of JBL 6x9" 3 way speakers mounted on a home made carpeted MDF shelf & a 10" & 12" JBL sub woofers mounted along the rear seat with the amp

ice/sat nav

hi sweety.
cameraman set up the original off road route and then sent me a copy which i downloaded onto my TomTom one.
I now go into faverits and one catagery is Derbyshire lanes
i then scroll down till i find the lane i want .click on it then before end of lane click on next lane i require and most times all is ok . unless it tries to take me to wrong end of lane so make sure you make a referance to which end it refers. you can then drive them in opposite direction .
to save a lane and add it to Derbyshire lanes i click on GPS possision which puts it in favorits or map possision and that puts it in D` lanes.
most of the time
its a bit of a pain but you can always deleat a lane if you male hen it up..

ps. my sat nav is out of date with some motor way changes
but dont want to risk down loading new program in case it wont work wth the lanes.

Thanks for that I think i'll have to have a play about with it to see if I can get it to work

I have a 2008 road atlas mounted behind the passenger seat had to upgrade from a 2005 version as got caught out when looking for a roundabout that wasn’t there anymore.

Seriously are these satellite jobbies really worth having :?:

sat nav

hi jeremy.
pleased with the tom tom but its dated now .
new models are £100 plus mark.
still cross referance with maps though ,or you will end up doing a lot more miles as you just as likely to be sent miles round or following the river or something.

thanks for the response guys, was supposed to be an intro to new forum area than a thread in its own right but seems to have grown in to a general intro to in car tech.

ive got a tomtom one, and most boats and orpa appear if you explore the map area. then i select each end in turn as a point of interest. on my poi's it offers coloured dots so have tried to use the colours of arrows found on the lanes' signs. ie red for boat, blue for bridleway, yep adding these to hilght fact they are there but out of bounds in truck. use green for orpa's.

can then go into poi's and select a lane and it routes me to it though not yet used that way as always been on someone elses tour. more for when i'm bored and playing with tommy!

at home i ve got auto route on desktop and laptop, mapwise an os prog not quite as good as memory map, in that cant link to a pda/gps.

looking to go MM, either with a pda/gps or an enabled mobile, counting the pennies!

as previously stated got an unbranded head that that handles mp3s either from usb, memory stick or cd.

the cb is a midland 98 with mag mounted mini stinger...for now.

over!

ps pls feel free to add new discussions to this forum area.

you said it tb, suppose theres truro, then plymouth.

understand theres a new satnav not tt i think may be sony that
knows what lane your in and structure of junctions etc

ive just bought a paper atlas decided to compliment a s/n.
has decent route planning pages of country, and about
100 town and city centres, about half size of usual atlas slots in
to seat pocket, think printed by philips. i also hlike there county
roadmaps based on os mapping, more realistic typically than a-z
types. plenty of scale to see spot row's.
