Had a new front exhaust fitted this morning, garage took around two hours.

Anyhow, when the turbo kicks in, with the window open, there is a noise that is best described as a load of washers rattling on a loose bolt. It is worse from the near side.

Clearly I think it is turbo noise, but in 19 years, I have never heard this amount of noise before.
I have checked the under tray bolts and they are fine.
Also the "U" clamp on the gearbox, those nuts are tight too.

I doesn't happen in neutral through the rev range, but only when the boost gauge start to go from yellow to red.
Accelerating in any gear... and you can hear it.

Close the windows and you can hardly hear it.

It was fine before it went in...
I did a pressure test on the exhaust, with a plastic bag over the tailpipe, and there are no leaks.

So could it be the make of exhaust pipe?

I am tempted to take it back for them to sort out...
but any ideas first :nenau

Best regards,
Rustic

Hi Rustic ,Was it a genuine Nissan exhaust. as the one I had fitted recently had numerous heat shields tacked on ,it could be one of these vibrating. This happened to me on a Mazda I had and it drove me mad till i found out what it was. :doh

No not a genuine Nissan one, supplied and fitted by Kwikfit, they did the last one, over nine years ago, and that was fine, but there are two brackets tack welded on, one near the gearbox mount, and one just before the connection to the middle piece, these are not used.
I think there is a heat shield, but I need to take a closer look.

Thanks for the quick response.

Well done KwikFit.

EXHAUST NOW SORTED...:clap:clap:clap
OR I HAVE GONE DEAF... what..:nenau

I took the Mav back to KwikFit in Brownhills, West Midlands, the manager said to bring it back, so I did, and I took him for a test drive, and sure enough the resonance was there. It was turbo related noise for sure.
He then, resealed the gaskets, and unfortunately this didn't improve it.

He said we have an option, of replacing the pipe with another manufacturer's pipe, which he did this morning, Friday 27th, which I am now pleased to say has cured it completely.:thumb2

For reference purposes, the noisy pipe was made by Bosal, and the replacement was made by timax.

Might have been a one off, but if in 9 1/2 years time, when I need I new one, I will steer clear of the bosal one...:lol:lol:lol

Just one of those things I guess.:nenau

In all fairness, KwikFit didn't try to side step the issue, or say keep the windows closed or buy a louder stereo.:augie

Credit where credit is due.:thumb2

Thank you KwikFit.:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap
