Hi all, appy new year etc !

Broke the habit of a lifetime & had new clutch done by a garage.

1998 2.7 Terrano 2 intercooler LWB 190,000 miles

All is OK, but they admitted to breaking a "mudflap" on the gearbox ( ?? ! ) which they have now ordered & will fit free of charge once it arrives.

No problems with that.

But is this some sort of rubber boot over the gearstick ( under the floorwell ) ??
possibly prevents mud & crap getting into gearstick mechanism ??

They said car OK to use as long as I did no go off road ( so I could have car back for getting to work )

Gear selection & new clutch is all OK, but lever travel is proverbial prick in a shirt sleeve ( remember old Ford gearchanges ??? )

Is the loose gearstick travel down to some sort of adjustment on the detent reverse spring / can this be improved ??

Or is the missing rubber boot going to cure most ills when fitted ???

.... answers on a postcard please ......

thanks
TOSKA

Nylon bush on bottom of gearstick causes a sloppy gear stick when it's worn.

Can always rely on you rustic :thumb2
If it was OK before clutch was done then I would be taking this up with the garage that did the clutch.

Thanks to you both.

I'll get a new bush fitted at the same time as the new mud boot

At least I'll KNOW I've chosen the wrong gear after that !!

regards
