new clutch fitted today. slips into gear a treat.left car at garage tho cos hes not happy with clutch pedal as it seems slow coming back up .thinks it may have something to do with the bolt someone has shoved in the end of the slave cylinder instead of the pin.i bought a new slave cylinder and left it with him. any other ideas before the poor sod has to drop gear box incase new slave doesnt improve.

If he has disconnected the slave cylinder and air has got in, on some models there is a pipe that runs to the rear of the car that acts as a damper, and if there is air in this, it might cause it to be slow.
Just a thought.:nenau

mechanic phoned me at 6.30 to tell me he had the car back on the lift. and that the flexi pipe on the slave cylinder was blown up like a balloon.gonna pick up a new pipe tomorrow and perhaps blank off damper pipe.

rick and swifty had a car in with the same sort of problem if i recall correctly, and another member had the same thing also.

Maybe the new clutches require more pressure than when they get older hence the problem after the new one was fitted.

When I changed the clutch fluid the other day, it took very little effort with my hand to fully depress the clutch.

So maybe .... New clutch........ New flexi

A new clutch with a diaphragm spring will require less effort than a worn one this is because the tines on the spring that the thrust bearing is pushing on as the center plate wears they come further out so the attack angle is greater hence a bit more effort, it does seem to be that when the pressure is removed (small) when a clutch is changed that these hoses fail at the same time we have had a couple in a fairly short time, and for the sake of repeating myself it is very easy to prove your clutch, select 5th gear, hand brake on hard, right foot on brake heel on throttle full bore, slid left foot of clutch, engine should stop, sounds bad but it is a completely standard test, Rick

I had a new clutch and pressure plate as a matter of course when the gearbox was off for repair. Driven plate had loads left on it but with the new it didn't judder going down to second, didn't look like there was anything wrong with the old pressure plate either.
