ive found this system in the isuzu bighorn , its basically a high quality sat nav , and upon a bit of research it seems to be updated by satellite  , ive also found a 10 cd changer unit ( pioneer i think ) under the passenger seat :naughty , trouble is , it seems that they were both connected to the original audio system ( which is no longer installed ) .

without crawling about with a multimeter , i suspect that this may be the reason why i have diabolical audio levels from the replacement cd / tuner ( cheap goodmans )

has anyone any experience of the naviken system ? and is it feasible that the speakers are in fact connected to the inbuilt amp , thereby giving poor audio as its not connected properly ? , ie .... signal not amplified , in fact attenuated by the system ?

Naviken is the software, not the hardware?

And I'd be seriously surprised if its updated by satellite, not only am I not aware theres any download technology to do it but it would require an open satellite link and have you any idea how much satellite airtime costs?

update by satellite isn't that far-fetched , it only needs to be a downlink which is already there. Some tv satellite receivers can be updated via satellite.

i asked a few questions and it seems the system is ntsc ( not pal ) , although it is possible to convert ntsc to pal , its certainly not easy .

it also seems the system is updated in japan only

i found a manual which explains quite a bit about the system ( below )

it appears to be not a lot of use outside japan after i read it :doh

My freesat gets updates etc off outa space :D

Its not quite what you think. I mean if firmware and software were truly upgradeable by satellite can you imagine what fun the chinese and russians would be having? we'd all be watching porn channels 24x7.

I say BRING IT ON. :lol
