AH SOMERSET THE COUNTY OF SCRUMPY. :p
If you take a look at somerset county councils rights of way web site you could be forgiven its still a mecca for green laners.
The county has over 9,000 rights of way. totaling 3750 miles. :p
then in 2006 the nerc bill came in.
It left 4 miles of byways.
it took away 186 miles of rupps.
The infuriating thing is due to a lack of action by the council they were lost
Section 54 of the wildlife and countryside act 1981 required councils to re classify rupps as eather byway or bridleway not all were done "if any"
fortunatly there are some ucr`s.
THE ABOVE WAS TAKEN WAS TAKEN FROM LRO OCT 08.
.......................
Me thinks there was some anti 4x4 members on council

yes think they suffer left hand dont know what
right hand is doing syndrome.

saw a lane at back of burnham on sea 2 years back.

was marked boat on map but bridleway on signs,
or vice versa. either way gave it miss.

atlewast there are a few beaches you can drive on
if only officially to park...always made sure parked
at far ends.
