My new terrano problems

Hi I have recently purchased a 53 plate terrano 2.7td with a 3 month warranty,as usual this has just run out and problems start to appear :doh . I had a bit of noise and found the drop links to be shot so replaced both last week now I have a new noise I have narrowed down to the front prop by jacking up the front wheels and turning them both the prop squeaks as it turns which then gets louder as I drive has anyone come across this ? Is a new prop needed.

So my thoughts would be check auto hubs make sur they are disengaving

Is that the type with no grease nipples fitted.You can just replace the universal joints not expensive

Yes looks a fixed shaft with no nipples

Another question sorry as its a lot different to my old frontera, to shift between 2 and 4 wheel do I just move to 4 high whilst in motion then when I want to come back to 2 wheel just move lever back whilst still going forward

Very Very important. do not use 4wd on dry tarmac :nono
Only use on slippy surfaces.

To answer your question, Yes you can change from 2H - 4H and back again while moving. 25-30mph is what I normally do.
To disengage properly, reverse a few metres. Although 4wd light can go out while moving forwards .

I did read them but just checking as my last 4x4 I had to stop move to 2wd then reverse in a straight line to get out of 4wd making the nissan a lot easier to move between

I'd check the guard at the front of the rear prop - mine squeaks, particularly on corners. I was worse before i 'moved' it with a hammer

It is the front one that is squeaking after having it on a ramp don't know if its worth changing the joints ( is this an easy job ) or getting a second hand prop as looks like there's only a few bolts to change the whole lot

The first time I changed a UJ, I ended up needing a new prop - not cos its difficult, but cos I'm an idiot..... I pressed the bearing cup in too far to get the first end out, and mangled the yoke....

Props are easy peasy mate, my rear on my SWB was 4 bolts and pull out of the gearbox when I had to do my UJ's

Can't see the front being much different

You beat me too it.
I had an annoying squeak and mine turned out to be the heat shield on the exhaust near the front prop.
One of the bolts had sheared so I removed it totally and never looked back.

Don't like lack of grease nipples though, after going through the wet stuff I can't re-grease to keep it all clean! Frontera props never failed but I don't expect Terrano's 'sealed' joints to last very long.

the only T2 props I've know fail are because of diff problems on the 3l, on the other hand the issues I've had with fronteras are too log for this forum :doh

They are only sealed on the later terrano earlier ones had grease nipples

I couldn't find a guard on any of the props

hi.
I cant remember if I said welcome to the club to you but welcome to the club.
I too brought mine from a garage with a full mot.
I don't know who passed it they should of been sacked.
everything that should of been rubber was knackerd. I had to replace lots of bits as soon as I brought it.
I brought it in winter at a high price,got it home and had trouble starting it constantly,changed the glow plugs did a service and still it wouldn't start. turned out to be the relay. or at least I hope , I will find out in winter I suppose.
The tyres had been reversed to make look ok and he even give me a recipt for new tyres.cheeky twat.
my point is ive done all the jobs (apart from the rattly gearbox).
and the body work is sound with not much rust.the chassis has now been fully hammerited and waxoyled. the engine and box have been serviced with every oil and filter.the diff oil is new and I feel confident its as good as its going to be for its age.
things are going to fall off and break but everything can be replaced easily enough and there is more info on here that one brain can manage.
everyones friendly and a few might even come help you out if local enough.
don't be to disappointed with your new motor.As long as the body and chasis are ok bear with it and bond. get these jobs done and trust your motor as nissans are brill:clap:clap
