Hello

I was hoping you could help me with this. I am thinking of buying this Terrano (my first Nissan and 4x4) and wanted to know if there was anything I should look out for. Alot of people are saying the gearbox? This buy seems a no brainer to me. :nenau

Welcome!!! :thumb2

Rust plagues these trucks a lot so make sure you look in all the cracks and crevices as best you can including;

Front Wings (below trim too), front crossmember, inside front wheel arches (where water splashes up) Rear seats belt anchor points (pull on seatbelts really hard), boot floor (pull carpet up), Sills

Apart from that mate everything else is cheap enough to fix, make sure you go for the 2.7TDi and not the 3.0 and get it running on the Veg Oil :thumb2

What he said. And take your time when looking. And Howdy By the way.

Welcome mate, boxes often rattle at idle, one of mine has and was like it when I bought it, that was 30 or 40 k miles ago, floor pans go under the second row seats, and brake/fuel pipes corrode from gearbox back, drop links fail but easy and cheap job, Rick

as said, RUST is the enemy. Gearboxes are generally tough. rear LSD and 4 wheel transfer box should be tested. Clunks rattles and so on should be inspected, otherwise these are simple trucks. a jolly good test drive should show up any problems, you MUST get it to full working temp and then drive it for a good 30 mins at least - this will reveal any issues with sensors, fuelling brakes etc

best of luck, hope its a good one.

as said, get a torch, and get it into every crevice - SILLs, rear arches, any point where plastic meets metal and especially the front arches where the chassis meets the inner wings - you will notice two large bolt holes that hold the bumper on, that area MUST be solid.

last but not least, smoke - note any, and if any, the colour and quantity!

Get one without a sunroof, no channels to rust sills (thanks Dave)

And yeah rust rust rust. Do have a good poke around underneath, don't take a dealers word for it. My truck has a leaky clutch master cylinder, behind the pedal you can see weeping rubber.

But yeah rust and more rust :thumb2

Welcome and good luck :)

Welcome.
If you have no joy, are local enough and can wait a few months, come and have a look at mine. I will unfortunately be selling soon as I can't take it with me...

Yeh, you don't need a sunroof, although I was glad of mine when we were on the Wales trip... didn't want to put my AC on in case Pete thought I was gay! :augie (I also had sidesteps at that point )

Sun roof is indeed ga very handy for escaping out of when one parks the truck on it's side :augie

These can and will rust, but so do lots of other makes of vehicle. If it's a genuine 39k truck,(make sure you see good proof of this) then it shouldn't have worn out to much. As has already been said, go for a good drive, make sure all's well, have a good look under the truck and see what it's like.
And if you do get it, pay your £10 and join the best club around...you won't regret it
