Thanks for thinking about it anyway, the paperbacks are there too but I have no control over the price of them :-/

the wife has just bought both... i told her to get them while they are cheap as she has a kindle and said she can take it for a week

The product description says it started in 1985 and goes on to mention Appleby Fair.
In '85 I was in a bowtop at Appleby (amongst a few other years too), our paths may well have crossed.
And as for romance, a few years later my son was conceived in a bowtop on the way to Appleby.
Strange really cos me and the missus spent most of our time fighting.

I found a stash old family photos of horse fairs last week but my scanner won't work with our new laptop's. When I get it sorted I'll post a few, see if you can spot any familliar faces

Some rare times and rare people back then. Some very good friends that are gone and missed.
They were the days of Jonny Eagle cracking his tether chain like a whip and pushing nails through his cheeks.

I looked at an old photo of him doing a 'show' earlier today, pulling a crowd at Appleby. You are right, those days have gone forever, nothing is the same, even Appleby is going down hill

Appleby Fair

My old Gaffer used to race Trotters & Pacers and when he was alive he would never miss Appleby Fair !

He died before they closed the track at Chasewater and put houses on it.

When he had a good win at Chasewater I used to have to drive over in my firm's car and drive his tow car and twin Rice Horsebox back to Burton on Trent.

His tow car was a white Ford Gran Torino with red sidewinder stripe - just like the Starsky & Hutch Motor it was a 425 cu inch version - thats 7 Litres of V8 !
