I assume your gauges are in miles rather than Kilometres?
Yes they are in miles, but not sure about the odometer, my trip to work is 16 miles, I'll check this morning.

From my experience I get,

20-23 mpg around town, mostly short journeys.
Might creep up to 27-30 mpg on a motorway run if I drive like miss Daisy...

Best I've ever had was 26mpg over a trip to Inverness with four bikes on the back and four adults inside plus all our stuff for the week. Quite surprised by that figure, not sure how often I get that much as I don't tend to fill brim to brim that often, but for an older Td, I think the MPG is worse anyway.

On my '94 swb I get around 25-27 around town, and 29-31 on a run, that's on straight diesel. Even driving from northern to southern Spain (around 600 miles of dual carriageway) best I got was 32.

I check mine as previously recommended, by brimming it, checking mileage then brimming it again, far more accurate, even more so if you do it over several fill-ups.

The Speedo is out. This DOES affect the odometer. If 30mpg sounds good it is actually less.
Solution: see a pic of makeitfit's T2

Well I knew the speedo was off by at least 10% so I expected a similar discrepancy when I did the last sizeable run so I compared my exact route with Google maps.

Well wrap me in sausage skin and call me pork, it's no where near as far off, maybe 15 miles on a 1000 mile journey.

Just calculated 21mpg on a fill to fill.
Just done the valve clearances so hoping this might improve by a couple on this next tank!

ive just peered under the bonnet for the fuel pump ....... erm ... im not really sure what i was looking for , but i can definately say that whatever fuel pump i have is dirty and oily

Ha ha Briggie, cant you look up your E manuals and see what it is?
I'm sure you could run at least a 50:50 mix and thus save you a considerable wedge :naughty

Mine does about 25 around town, only advantage it runs on 50% veggie oil so works out a bit more economical.
