Well here's a shock and surprise....

Fuel Cost pence/Litre 142.7
Total Spend pounds £30
Distance miles 176

Your real-world MPG average is 38.06, covering 176 miles using 4.62 gallons of fuel.

that ul do me... :thumbs

Was it down hill? LOL.
No, I know it's hard to believe but i suspected I was getting pretty good MPG but needed to actually prove it.... I don't drive it hard and the trip to work is pretty straight forward, no traffic, hardly any stopping and starting.... and a round trip is 32 miles for me on straight roads for most of the way..

i agree with fez, and the method is simply guess work, fill it back to the brim and see what it takes! i bet you put more back in than you think! :thumb2

Ok but surely it works the other way, to run it almost dry, put in £30 and run it to the same point?

yeah, you have to do the brim thing a few times to work out an average..

ok I'll give it a go but I'm still convinced.... cheers and that was a gin and tonic!

I assume your gauges are in miles rather than Kilometres?

There is often a couple of gallons in the tank when the low fuel light comes on.

This method is very inaccurate. The fuel gauge has hysteresis, in that it will show different readings for the same amount of fuel, depending if the fuel is going down, or being filled up.
There will also be errors called repeatability, that is noting how much fuel you put in to get to the same point on the gauge, do this a dozen times and you will have a wide range of values.

Also how level the vehicle is will affect the reading.

Sorry to burst your bubble but your readings are not scientific.

We are all jealous in case you were right really...:lol:lol:lol:lol

best regards,

Rustic

'to the same point' it is hard to do that with any accuracy and even a few miles difference will throw the figures out :thumb2

if its a mistral , you may find that even though the speedo face has been changed from a km face to a mph face .... that the odometer itself is still in km

a km is aprroximately 0.6 of a mile

Yep, 110miles off 30quid is nowt to shout about.
As fez said above and James Arthur
Impossible
