Moving to Sweden, the long way... In a Terrano...

Morning All,

New to the website and I cant see any ride report section, but thought this might be interesting to some, as it's in a terrano

It's a 2003 2.7TDI LWB with 75,000 miles on the clock. Pictures will follow

Anyway, this will be a live report of my long move to sweden, in a Nissan Terrano with my girlfriend. We are leaving on the 7th of May and will land for the last time in Sweden, late 2013.

Will you be prepping the vehicle at all ?

I'd advice new front pads, strip and adjust rear brakes, new shocks, new drive belts and a good service and some cooper str tyres

I'd do a 2" lift and fit a snorkel also, but not essential lol

id also take a spare maf, and I'd remove and blank the egr valve before the trip

Haha, Trip is paid out of my own pocket from sale of my items in the UK, houses are much cheaper in sweden so this makes it possible.

I'll be camping mostly, some hotels/ hostels, we are modding the car by taking the rear row seats out and turning it into a bed. We will have box's under the bed to keep stuff.
On the roof we will also have a small roofrack to carry a spare tyre, diesel etc but not too much weight.

Car has just had a full service when I bought it, £300 worth. Ouch, plus the front discs cleaning up / pads replacing. New battery.

Bought 5x brand new tyres, A/T tyres as going to be doing about 80% road work. (Ouch again) It's a sport version so got massive 17'' wheels with good ground clearance

Bought a MAF sensor as spare, also 2x oil filters to do a oil change on the road. Got a workshop CD too from Nissan.

Further prep then that is not much, just a good pair of tyres, a good service, a set of tools and a few spares.

Going to have it checked over by a Nissan Main dealer too before we set off.

One thing that worries me is the wheel changing kit doesn't look brilliant... Is there another type? Or does it work?

Oh I also cleaned the underbody and re-sealed it with dinitrol

You're correct in that the wheel changing kit leaves a lot to be desired. The jack is positively dangerous unless it's on a perfectly level hard serface, even then I would not get under it. A cheap and cheerful small trolley jack can be had for £20 - £30 which is infinitely better.
Also there is not much leverage with the standard wheel brace, so a short length of scaffolding pole or a two foot breaker bar with the correct socket should be in the boot.

how are you setting up in Sweden, if you've used your money on the traveling expenses?

I'm setting up in sweden due to having money left in Savings. I'll also have my girlfriends parents to live in a flat they own till we get sorted.

Been a while since I visited, so just an update for you guys.

Time for an, but we have made some progress with the car. We received the graphics from Humvee graphics, and also a couple of ebay shops. We have fitted these.

Thanks for the graphics Steve, they look really good. The some pictures don't do them justice. Appreciate your help.

We also had the Side steps and Tow Bar removed to increase ground clearance and hopefully reduce the chances for us to get stuck in mud, the tow bar was like an anchor in the mud on the off road day.

We have also booked our ferry from Dover, 7th of May.

Sleepless nights have started, rather scary but exciting...
