My mot is due and the dogs have chewed through one of the seat belts the one for the 3rd of seats , will this mean it will fail its test. We don't have the 3rd of seats fitted anymore. Any advice please

If its for the 3rd row & the seat isnt there, remove all of the third row seat belts :nenau

I would have thought if the seat belt is there, then it could fail.

If it wasn't there... it couldn't.:nenau

So are you likely to ever use 7 seats in the future?

As the 3rd row has been removed they are unable to test the belts as the buckles are attached to the seat so the fact they have been chewed shouldn't come into it as they can't do the full seat belt check. If they are just frayed you can use a lighter to melt the edges (have done it on loads of motors) & they will pass

the seat has to be there to test the seat belt as thats where they fasten too so i would imagine they cant be tested as there is no fastening point :nenau

if the seat is not there, or the seatbelt is faulty and would not pass even if the seat were there, then the tester would probably only issue a cert for "number of seats = 5" as happened to me. the next year i had replaced the DOG chewed belt and seats were fitted and cert was for "number of seats =7":thumb2
I would stillinsure as 7 seats:thumb2

TBH never had any issues at all removing 6&7 seats from my motors T2's came out an hour after getting it & my disco I had to fully unbolt the things & one belt was badly frayed both sailed through their MOT's

when i take mine for test the tester says if the seat is not present then the belts do not count so always has passed mine for the last 4 years:thumb2

Mine is insured as 7 seats, only got two fitted, passed MOT no problem after I changed the rear shocks

My 3rd row are folded up and there is a dog cage in there. Never had them tested whilst in that configuration as such but failed on lots of other things tho:doh

My last 3 mot's have not had the 3rd row in. Choose your station wisely and you won't have a problem. David.

As we never use the 3rd row, I took the seats and the extra seat belts out as well, as they kept getting in the way. Pretty easy job to do.

Sailed through mot nothing said about seatbelt .
Thanks again

Good tip:thumbs

the belts on a T2 can be changed easy as no need to change the roller part, so you do not have to faf about getting a nearside or off side, Rick
