My 1997 t2 failed it's mot recently for rear suspension corrosion and third row inner seat belt missing?? the seats were in my garage so I suppose they were missing , along with the seats!! Easy job just put the seats back........ Corrosion not so easy, the rear plates which hold the top of the rear springs had rotted, disintegrated more like and taken the chassis with it. It looked terminal but, the lads in my friendly back street garage said that because the car so tidy and looked after they would like to have a go a saving its life! Which they have and its now ready for another year of dragging our caravan around europe, thanks boys.
First we aquired the two suspension top plates, these could only be sourced from Nissan and cost more than an arm and a leg in fact we could have bought a complete beast for less!
I never had bumpstops on this vehicle, from posts on this site I have realised that they are part of the suspension taking weight directly to the chassis on load directly thruogh the large rubber loops. These I understand cost £88 each from Nissan I got the pair s/h from ebay for £20.
The piece of chassis complete with what was left of the springs holders and bumpstop mounts were cut out, a short piece of chassis was fabricated and the holders were welded to the top and the bumpstops were welded to the bottom, the whole assembly was then welded back into the chassis, sprayed with under seal and "Bobs your uncle, Fannies your aunt and Dicks your best friend" as they say. The seats were put back and the MOT was obtained. My thanks to Ged and Ian my back street boys. I will now attempt to to add photos, regards bri http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/wildebri/TerranoRepairs?authkey=Gv1sRgCKaP3O-HjdvE6AE#
