MOT is looming

so it turns out my MOT is due next week, good thing I just fixed the car so I can drive it there.

I havent got it booked in yet, but I am aware of some rust appearing on the sills I need to check and tidy up, hopefully it wont need welding!

I am considering taking it to my usual garage, not for any special reason, but I noted Halfords have auto centres now, and my boss has had both of his cars pass the MOT everytime now for the last few years....worth taking it there, or will they be much harsher with mine?? My boss has an old Fiesta and a quite new Shogun.

My main worry, is the sills. Generally they are solid, but I noted a patch of bubbling metal on the drivers sill in the middle, so obviously when I come to tidy it, its gonna fall apart probably....!!

What about those rear seat belt mounts too clivvy, they didn't look too healthy when I last saw them last summer.

Get things patched up this weekend mate and a good dose of underseal.

its fine Jim, hasnt got worse TBH. I did give it a good treatment though, and it didnt fail last year. Its more the drivers sill, a small hole appeared in the middle, im going to cut it off this week and see whats going on inside, if all ok, ill patch it.

ok, it failed, but not badly, and on the same things it failed on last year!

ONE nearside drop link (I knew abotu it, can hear it clinking)
and Handbrake efficiency.

both these were failures last year, so they said they will strip the brakes to see whats what, but to me, worst case will be handbrake cable as I am fairly sure the brakes themselves are good as I had them done a couple of years back and havent put on that many miles.

I may get them to do the clutch while they have it, but I need to speak to the owner first to see how much!!

so, all in all, not too bad.

you should be able to sort the hand brake yourself Clivvy, and the drop links are really easy. Don't worry too much about all the posts on here about offsets and weak ones off ebay, if you buy them from Langdon they'll fit and work replace both ends if you can afford it.

cheers chap, I left the car with them, because their hourly rate is pretty reasonable and they are very much into their 4x4's! Anyhoo, the handbrake thing may turn out to be something I cant sort, as I think last year they simply adjusted it, I think one of the handbrake wires is sticking....

Jim, I took it to Tony in Elland, the chap I have used before. its CN Autos in Elland. For me, they are a no messing about garage, they tell it how it is, and I like that, I can trust it.

It 's good when you can find a friendly garage. The guy I use tells me what it should fail on , I promise to fix it and then he passes it. I always do the work or if it's beyond me I get him to do it. The only time he has ever failed it was last year when he found there were no brake pads on the front nearside ;O(

Mine goes to Halfords, but my mate works there so i know they wont have my pants down. Funny thing is though mine faild on the same things, Drop link arms and hand brake.
Drop link arms cost me £19 each from Dav Mac, Hand brake cable both sides was £50 i think from Mansfield.
Took me 3 hours to get it all fixed, so if you get change out of £150 from them fixing it, then it was a bargin.

well, garage fixed it this morning, no other problems hurrah!

Said he had to re build and adjust the brakes, so thats good, and fit a new drop link, £100 all in. not bad that at all, im very pleased.
