Spent Sunday finally fitting the wiring kit for the towball electrics and it includes a replacement indicator relay with an extra towbar indicator light.

My question is, where is the relay this replaces on a Mk1 - I assume it's one of the four near the fuse box by the drivers right knee, but I was getting tired by then and the one I thought it was (by removing each in turn) started all the dash lights flashing like the indicators when I turned the key!

Anyone been here before me and able to resolve my senior moment, or shall I have to go trying each in turn until I get it to work/break something!

I shall tell u, it's under steering colume, , not to be confused with lights on buzzer, it's a 3 pin relay, what u need to do is take cover under the steering off put the flashers on, and listen to where the sound comes, also touch the relays as they vibrate when active , it's not hard to find, its got flasher unit written on it from memory

Hmmm, I did look at the four relays below the fuses, all four were blue and seemed to be four pin, one I tried that I thought was it set all the initial dash lights flashing - discotastic!

Never noticed a sign saying flasher here!

I'm sure it's a black one and is even labelled up, I noticed that when I had my dash out when I was wiring my spots in

No, they are for the ignition accessories etc, the flasher relay is further back, it's mounted to a metal plate behind the dash:)

Ah, that explains it, will need to dig further down then! Now I just need the rain to stop!

ohh here's a fact for you, it's now illegal if your tow vehicle doesn't have a flasher beeper that tells you the flashers are working on your trailer, i fitted one to my t2 a while back when i found out about this, i love playing with electrics so enjoyed fitting it, but i can see it being an inconvenience for some:thumb2
