i was all excited when my insurance company said they would arrange a new windscreen because i had windscreen cover on my policy , and they arranged for autoglass to fit it on saturday afternoon , i got a phone call this morning from autoglass ...

" hello sir we are due to fit a windscreen to your vehicle on saturday "

" yes thats correct , thankyou "

" unfortunately we have a slight problem , your car is a imported car "

" that is correct , it is a nissan mistral , however its basically a terrano "

"there is a difference between the screens sir , and your insurance company have declined to fund the cost which is around £2000 "

" for a bluddie windscreen ??? "

" yes sir , the part number is different to a terrano windscreen and there must be a difference , do you wish to proceed with the fitting at your expense ? "

" certainly not "

" do not hesitate to call us if you require your windscreen fitting sir "

" goodbye "

is there really a difference ? or are they extracting the urine ? :nenau

my navara's an import and they did mine(autoglass).

When you insured your Mistral did you inform them that it was an import.

If you did and they did not decline then i'd say you have them by the short and curlies.

Have a read of your policy and if it says nothing about not offering cover for imports get back onto them and tell them you want the screen fitted for the £75 excess or you getting on to the insurance ombudsman.

they know its a import , they said they would not fund a replacement costing £2000

£2000? Rubbish!!!!

Even a super-trick-fandango-whizzy Jag screen with heating elements, sun strip and refective coating is not £2grand.

Someone is having a laugh...

are you making this up pete, cos thats total bollocks, right, ring Walkers Windows mate now, get a price off them, they did my mazda years ago, for about £65, autoglass or whoeveer they are wanted £180, thats for a drivers door window.

Pete i'd get back onto them and give them what for, they knew it was an import, they accepted your money.
They have given you windscreen cover its no fault of your they have not done their homework.
You have them by the balls mate, dont back down.
Start by calling citizens advice or trading standards and if need be go all the way and report them to the insurance ombudsman.
The ombudsman is a slow drawn out process but i dont think your insurance company has a leg to stand on.

dont bother with autoglass , far too expensive ... go to auto windscreens instead , my insurance company approved them , they did a great job and it only cost me my windscreen excess (£75)
