I noticed a patch of oil on the floor of my garage, and after putting the Mistral over a pit, I found that ATF was leaking from the front of the fluid flywheel. I checked all the pipes and they were OK. It's leaking from the front of the bell-housing and dripping down on to the crossmember.
I checked the transmission fluid level, and there wasn't even a drip on the end of the dipstick (other than myself !!) After refilling the ATF level, I found that the problem I had been getting with the turbo pressure valve seemed to have cured itself.
Anyone ever taken a Torque converter off a Mistral, or had a similar problem and can give advice ??
Thanks, Matt.

torque converter is gonna need gearbox out to replace uasally take starter out to undo securing bolts its gonna be a heavy ol job sure you wanna do it!.with it being empty its been letting engine over rev (no resistance) causing your valve prob

Mistral Fluid Flywheel Leak

Do you think putting Molyslip in the ATF would possibly help ? Don't fancy doing the job myself, and there doesn't seem to be anyone who knows about Mistrals in the Swansea Area.

is molyslip a sealer aswell as lube? you could try some kindve fluid that stops leaks it may work youve nothing to lose! id have thought any autobox reconer would be able to do job its whether theyd be prepared to remove/refit box.my old mistral had a receipt for auto box overhaul somewhere in glouscester at cost £2k i gave £1100 for whole truck taxed an tested!

Well, the other alternative is to carry a pipe + funnel and a couple of litres of ATF while I look around for someone who will do it at a reasonable price, or put it in part chop for something else.

try some kindve stop leak stuff it may work or 2nd hand box/torque converter

The gears are working perfectly ..... No problems with the actual gears, just leaking ATF. I think a seal or gasket must be leaking, but can't see up
in front of bell-housing to where it is leaking from.
Checked all the pipes and they are all OK.

I have just spoken to AUTOMEC at Swansea (01792 456750 ) about my leaking fluid flywheel, and as soon as I explained that it was a Nissan Mistral, and the symptoms, said " The pump seal has gone" and quoted about £150:00 to do it. He won't be able to do it for about 2 weeks , but I will post the results as soon as it's done.
Matt.

that sounds a bargain they must have secret way getting at it without having g/box out!

As long as they can sort it out for that price, I will be happy !! On their advert in the phone-book they do state that they are specialists on automatic gearboxes, and he told me what he considered to be the problem as soon as I told him the symptoms, so it looks as though he knows his automatic gearboxes !!

As I said, I will post any comments about the results .... How about forming a list of garages in different parts of the country who have done good and fairly priced work for club members, so that anyone needing work done on their vehicle can check the list and see who is nearest to them ?? ....... Just a thought !!
Matt.

i think it a good idea if garage found giving exelent service could save members major headaches and if they now there work will be judged on internet they might be encouraged to up the standard!

I'm with you on this 1 Jace  I know a few good garages, 1 I use mainly as he is honest as the day is long & sometimes I get a bit discount as I used to work for him

ask mav first just incase but i dont think hed have a problem if it helps others out.

Fluid Flywheel Leak - Update.

I took my Mistral in to have the leak done on Tuesday 31/7/07 by 08:30am for them to have all day to sort it out. Phoned them at 4:30pm to see how they were getting on ..... They couldn't get the part ( seal for front pump on torque converter). I asked if it would help if I tried to find one, and after 3 phone calls, found someone who could get me one by next day(courier delivery) I phoned AUTOMECH ( who were doing the job) and told them, suggesting that as the people who could get the part were local ( and as it happened, Automech dealt with regularly) they should phone them to arrange things.
It is now Saturday morning 04/08/07, and still no sign of my Mistral , or the elusive pump seal !! .... The reason ? . The NUMPTYs at Automech, instead of having courier delivery, opted for 1st. class mail .... and apparently there is a postal strike on, in the area where the seal is coming from .......... MWWWAAAAAHHHH .... MY BRAIN HURTS !!!!!!
Matt.

Fluid Flywheel Leak. Update

Had the old girl back YESTERDAY !!! .... A week to fit a front pump seal on the torque converter !! The excuse was a postal strike in the area where the part was sent from ...... BRISTOL ..... I could have driven there and got the part myself !! .... Total cost of the excercise, including labour/part/ new ATF was £320:00 .

As soon as they find out it's a Jap import, they don't seem to be able to handle it. Having the same problem getting insurance quotes, it expires end of September, and lots of the companies either will not quote on Japanese imports, or want funny money with crazy excess payments.
