Hi guys. Just ordered a pair of front anti roll bar drop links from Milners, and couldn't believe the price - £15 each, plus postage, plus VAT, total around £40! I'm sure the last time I replaced them I paid around £20 for the pair (from eBay). They have lasted nearly two years, going up & down Spanish mountain tracks, so they can't have been particularly poor quality.
I know there has been various posts recommending Milners for these drop links, but are they really that much better? Seems a lot of money for a part that can be had so much cheaper!

Got some from Ebay, brand new for a tenner, so if they aonly last a year or two so what? I know Milners seems to be the Holy Grail for parts but there are places cheaper and with better customer service. (In my experience and own personal opinion).

I just wondered whether anyone has tried both (Ebay cheapies and Milners) and was able to make a comparison.

Got some "cheapish " of ebay they went on easy enough, but if i could get some uprated one would definitely be prepared to pay more for a set that would last longer than these have, what is the point of doing a job twice? Must admit have much better things to do with my time than fitting parts that i know will fail in another 12 months .
If anybody has a permanent(ish) solution tell us now

My feelings exactly - just don't want to feel I'm paying over the odds for items that won't last any longer than the (much) cheaper eBay ones!

I'm sure that "extreme-4x4" & or "makeitfit" bought them & they wore out rapidly so I personally would go on ebay 1st & see if you can get them cheaper anywhere else, if not, stick with ebay. :thumbs

balls, just bought some from milners. Didn't look on ebay, just have and they are about half the price.

Is it worth worrying about though?

1. You only get what you pay for most of the time, and 2. You don't know if they are better or worse.....

Get on with your life mate :lol:lol:lol

I think I will be ok, maybe I should get some counselling.

I'll give ya counselling when I'm next down :lol

An ideal opportunity to do a control test with the Milner ones and the "Cheaper" ebay ones. :thumb2

Log the date, Mileage, and on road / off road use until they fail, then log date and Mileage, then we can compare..

There are a lot of variables in this test, as what has worn mine out must be speed humps or heavy cornering.

Water ingress will also shorten the lives so going through even shallow water or road salt will affect them.
Power washing will damage them too.

The replacement time is about 1/2 - 1 hour for the pair, so no big deal, but a main dealer will charge you close to £200 so think of the saving you have made even with the more expensive ones. :thumb2

Good idea, will follow that up - mine haven't failed yet, but the rubber cover over the balljoint has split both sides, and with the amount of dust on Spanish tracks at this time of year (it's only ever dust or mud!) they will not be long for this world - perhaps the rubber cover is better quality on the Milners ones, on the ones I have now it doesn't seem much thicker than balloon rubber!

Re my comments on the apparent high cost of these ARB drop links from Milners, they have arrived in todays' post, and my initial reaction on unpacking them is that they are of much better quality than the £20 pair I bought from eBay last time. They are more substantial, and appear engineered rather than drop-forged, plus the rubber seal is very much thicker (that is what has failed on my current ones). They won't be fitted until I am over in Spain again next month, but it looks as though the higher cost may well be justified - watch this space!

I was going to say the same after looking at the ones on my vehicle at the moment. Which I bent on sunday.

Going to change them tomorrow if weather holds

Think I will still do what Rustic suggested and record the date/mileage that I fit these, and see just how long they do last. I've worked out pretty well when the last ones were fitted and it's not as long as I thought, probably about 3000 miles and 15 months, although probably half that mileage was up and down extremely rough Spanish tracks.

Cheep ones always last me one year.

Well to be more precise, fit them for mot, break them first time I go out playing then change them for next mot

See,one year ;O)
