Pull the plugs out the rear lights and make sure they aren't worn away and chaffed or that there's any moisture in any of the plugs :thumb2

Check the body earth's as well if you can trace them back easily enough. I know from recent experience that the earth for the rear lights on a Terrano require the rear trim to be removed to get to it :doh

It's either a faulty bulb or bad earth in the rear lamps.

Quite a common issue with lots of vehicles including those that have conductive paint on the rear of the lamps that form part of the circuits. (My old Carlton was a case in point - it also ate rear side lamp bulbs for this reason they would start to blacken after a few weeks use) .

If you have recently replaced a bulb I would try another one - better still fit all new - some of the cheaper bulbs are often faulty. Then as has been said check all the bulb holder contacts for corrosion & springiness then the plug in connectors. If you find condensation in the offending lamp that's a pointer.
