Help guys, my truck wont start anymore!:(
It was running at 1500 rpm tickover the other day. I thought it was the throttle and did roadside WD40 squirt everything kill or cure:augie
Made no diff for a while, then suddenly of it's own accord the tickover returned to normal :D
Result...................not.
Later that night after standing for an hour, it wouldn't start at all.
Had to squirt some cold start up it and bingo.:thumbs It runs a treat once going, no missing, stutters or anything.
Did it again today on the hills and again tonight:confused:
So what can be afoot?

Thanks Colin, I'll be having a crawl about under there tomorrow:doh
Anyone else?

So...when it's stone cold it wont start ?? So glowplugs ?? (doesnt explain the 1500rpm though) Or did I read your problem wrong..

Would the glow plugs fail suddenly?
The little light on the dash still comes on:confused:

As your inviting suggestions only thing I could think of from my limited knowledge is that my T2 idles high, 1000rpm or a bit above, but usually settles down a small bit once warmed up. Did you by any chance fill up with diesel recently. Went to local garage and their diesel is frozen and has been off and on for the past few days. Any chance you got any of this "warm weather diesel" by any chance?

although thinking about it the over reving the other day was def pedal issue as it stopped soon after you oiled it. and was good from then on all day. so not linked to the non running. unless the throttle pedal sensor dont like the wd40 you shoved up its arse..... but then surely it would start on tickover. . but then could be smothered in it and giving over fuel and flooding ..... think terra or jims terrano might know about the throtle sensor

Well I'm not sure the tickover is related:augiebut mentioned as it was a wierd thing to happen!
My tickover is normally about 850 due to the tunit set high:sly
I thought there may have been a throttle problem 'cause I could get the revs to drop a bit by putting my foot under the throttle and pulling it up:augie
Bit of a pain though heading down steep snow covered mountains:eek:
Anyway it suddenly went away after wd40:augiebut not sure if that squirt fixed it?
Have done about 400 miles last 3 days on manouvers in the snow:D
No idea what warm weather diesel is:confused:

That's 2 for air leak:D
Wouldn't the water be a problem all the time though?:augie

Don'y think there is actually warm weather diesel but was just making a bit of a sideways dig about pulling into a garage pumps the other day to get diesel and when nothing was coming out of the nozzle the assistant came out to say, sorry it must not have thawed out yet. Thought there was usually an additive in the diesel to prevent freezing and just throwing in my tuppence worth in case you had got some that was liable to freeze easily. But its probably totally off the mark considering the other aspects you mention.

I know it cleans em out but WD40 type stuff in your TPS will tend to make it a agnet for dust and crap afterwards. Personally I'd favour a strip and clean with contact cleaner etc.

As for the starting - Terrano's have a cold start temp switch which can be shorted to fool the ECU if they aen't working so that they will give the necessary ful enrichment to start. Theres a thing on how to test it in the manual. (this would't explain the high idle RPM though)

Yep WD40 was a bit of roadside job:augie I'll strip it out anyway now and contact clean etc.
I changed the fuel filter only a couple of weeks back so maybe some crap watery diesel purchased then:doh
I'll try warming the filter before starting tomorrow and see if that helps:thumbs

If the glow plug relay is fookered, or the Maxi fuse blown (eng bay box) then the little pube will still come on & go off, but the glowies wont actually get any juice- you can fairly easily check for +12v or so at one of the plugs under the intercooler with a helper turning the key on.

When the pube light goes off, you should still see the plugs on for serval seconds, then begin to cycle on and off. Will also hear the big relay clicking on and off - it's beside the battery on the inner wing.

I would guess you have an issue with the wiring to or the APS for the rev issue, OR your brake pedal switch is stuck or broken. Remember the T2 has a failsafe on the brake pedal which limits it to ~1500rpm when pressed, or if it wont fully return up.

Hope this helps.

Nice one Timbo I think that all fits the bill:thumb2
I had all the pedals out for welding etc a while back and they could easily have had some wire abuse, I'll check it out cheers.:clap
PS luv the "pube" light...PMSL
