I'm going to be ripping out my old engine soon and replacing with a bosch era engine but fitting a manual pump to it.
Now then some questions ; how can I get the rev counter to work .
Is there a simple "how to" on pump tuning ?
Engine has done about 80k it seems, is it worth checking head gasket or anything while I have the engine out ?

I can't answer most of it, but I do believe that some alternators have a Tachometer output, so that might be a starter for 10...

Would not bother pulling the head just for the sake of it, are you keeping the ECU? if so the rev counter is likely getting its info via the CPS on the bell housing, so you should be able to swap the flywheel and retain the sensor which is in the gearbox bell housing, re pump tuning, no idea, as for anything else, well sort any oil leaks, Rick

on older pump you can advance timing a bit for more umph, ecu should not come into play on it.

As far as I'm aware it's a case of swapping your accelerator pedal and pump for a mechanical one and just ensuring that the fuel pump comes on electrically when it's supposed to.

I don't know if the ECU is disconnected, if you splice into it or what :nenau

The only person I've ever heard of that has supposedly converted one back to a manual pump was that lad Timbo from Shropshire, I'm sure he said that he had before in another thread somewhere but didn't give the impression he wanted to elaborate anymore than saying he'd done it :nenau

Hmm, he said going into detail "again" so maybe it's on here somewhere, seems like a bit of a morngy git though :D

Where the bloody hell is Rustic, is he sciving again? RUSTIC RUSTIC!!!!!!!

What the hell do we pay him for :lol :lol :lol

Ha, top news at last. I've been on the hunt for a manual pump on tinterweb and got nothing under 400 quid until today that is :D
Popped into my local scrappy for some merc bits and I fell upon a Mistral. 5 mins later I'd bought the pump, pedal cables etc for the grand total of £80 :clap
Yee ha , the conversion is go go go :naughty

Bloody 'ell, that's the sort of luck usually reserved for banshee, don't you just love it when a plan comes together though :D :thumb2

Oh yes, been a long hunt. Nearly bought a whole truck a few weeks back for a pump but luckily the wife found out :lol
