spoke to the guy who changed the gear oil in my truck, he said it's really manky, almost grey/black:eek::eek::eek::eek:

is my gearbox knackered or is this normal, please help as im freaking out!!:(

it was gl5, i got him to put the correct gl4 in:D

GL 5 is the wrong gear oil for the gear box:doh

How do you know it is GL5 ?

The GL5 damages the synchomesh as it attacks the brass/ bronze parts.
Do you know how long it has been in there?

Normally gear oil doesn't change much in colour over time, darkens a bit I guess.

The rear diff is something else though, this can come out grey and sludgy, i the LSD oil hasn't been changed for 40k miles :doh
