I love new age technology
I assume yours is the actual Td and not the intercooler version.
The supply to the fuel gauge has to come from a supply which is live all the time, so it would be a case of finding a supply which is only live when the ignition is on.
That is the easy bit.
The problem will be finding what else needs this supply as probably all the wiring is behind the dash / dials etc.
I will have a look at my Td wiring diagram later... Much later, and I will try and let you know.
Another way is to disconnect the wire from the fuel sender... Electrically of course and either the fuel gauge will go to full or to empty, not sure which, but I suspect empty.
The disconnect could be done with a small relay, energised by the ignition, however you are messing about with wiring that if faulty ie poor connections or wrong connections could mean putting raw 12volts straight to the tank sender, which as a resistance could overheat and ... Say no more. Very dangerous.
Normally the wiring to the sender is current limited by the actual gauge, so changes to this wiring may have devistating consequences.
Or you could get a small card, on it write... Must get fuel .. And place this over the gauge position.
You could also write on it... Cure leaking brake pipes ASAP
This might also prevent anyone stealing it.:augie
You can tell I have been away for a few weeks, in fact I actually disconnected the Mav battery as it always discharges over that time.
Anyhow, last night re-connected it, put code into radio, and it started first time, bit smokey for a minute or so, but it needs a run to settle the ECU
Glad to be back... I bet nobody noticed I was gone..:doh
