ok took my maf off to give it a clean and noticed this, isn't there supposed to be something there, like a little fuse type thing

right a thermistor is supposed to be there, anybody any idea of what tollerance it is? so i can get a new one
 
No mate, I also wondered this on mine, but my new genuine one came without a resistor there
 
The air temperature output is not used by the ECU, hence only 4 of the 5 connections on the MAF are used.
 
Same, my original had it and my replacement didn't.
I think it's a thermocouple for inlet air temperature but using some decent diagnostic equipment at my work to look at live readings before and after replacement, I don't believe the ECU is looking for a value from it.
 
yeah, the other part of the wire is inside the plastic, but i think you can see a bit of it at the end of the housing-but cleaning it is really difficult. These are self cleaning anyway, so personally, id buy a new one.
