Truck number one has just passed it's M.O.T :clap.

Thats one thing less to worry about for 12 months!

Good news --when I take any of my motors for an MoT part of me always thinks they will find something to fail it on !

Its a pity we do not have any local authority run testing stations or truly independant test centres near where we live.

Too many garages use them as a cash cow!
I suspect bonus incentives paid to technicians do not help.

We have a test centre that's run by Bristol City council, it was set up to mot their own vehicles but it's available to members of the public too. I've not tried it yet but will do in October when my Jazz is due.
All tests done on my Terrano in Spain are by government-run centres, although they are impartial they are only in major towns so can be a fair distance away, mine is in Malaga which is about 20 miles away, so in the event of a failure this means 80 miles of travelling for the double trip.

That is a long round trip, for a M.O.T do they not have any viewing/waiting area's?

No, no waiting areas - the whole mot (or itv as it's called in Spain) is done with the driver sitting in the car, it's like a production line - the Malaga one has 10 lanes, all in use. First section is electrical check (lights/washers/wipers/horn/ etc plus seat belts) then over a pit where they check steering/suspension/brake and fuel lines and rust, then onto a rolling road to test the brakes. The whole process takes about 20 mins. Mine has failed the last three years, mostly small things (no such thing as advisories in Spain), the last one, in March, it failed on a worn steering upper ball joint - quick job at the local garage but still meant an 80 mile double round trip.

How often do you have them then ??
Same as here, every year. I seem to recall there is a sort of sliding scale for newer vehicles, something like three years for the first one, then every two years up to 10 years old, every year thereafter.

So what would the M.O.T fee be.It just cost me £40.00 today.

That's comparable to what i paid then.firebobby £53 seems steepish, but maybe they can charge whatever they can get away with.It would be interesting to see what other members are paying up and down the country..

I'm in South Wales just 15 min from cardiff and I get mine for 35 bucks.:thumb2
