Hi guys and girls any help urgently needed, how can i remove the lower ball joint and do I need any special tools, I have loosened all the bolts holding it in but can not seem to remove it, do I need to loosen anything else, thanks, Paul

Paul,

The joint will almost certainly be held tight in the taper below the large nut, this will require a ball joint splitter to remove, if you do not have access to one, then you can free the taper by applying a few sharp blows with a hammer to the swivel housing directly at the place the ball joint passes through it, if accesses is restricted with just a hammer use in conjunction with a large drift and don’t be afraid to hit it.

hiya tool box I have tried smacking it with a hammer no joy, don;t know what to try next lol

sein as supertrux had it apart not so long back few good whacks shouldve moved it u got big bar to lever down on wishbone after givin it good whacking?
dont force it use bigger hammer!

Large pinch/crow bar usually does the trick

I know how you feel, they can be a pain

you won't be able to get one for a couple of days now but a ball joint splitter is a worthwhile investment for any DIY mechanic.

Why are you trying to remove the joint Bluebull, is it to replace it because you have a new one, from the clmini kit or because it actually needs it?

I got new upper ball joints with the calmini kit, but supertrux decided not to fit them and both lower joints have split, so I was trying to remove the old ones and put new ones on, I managed to get 1 of the old ones off but don't know how to put new one on without stripping the whole wheel hub assembly. I placed the old one on again and going to call the mechanic out as I am fed up with my Terrano and the way supertrux has left it. Thanks for the advice everybody

I should write a formal complaint letter to LA supercrooks and send copies to the relevant trading standards and to Calmini in te states, likewise for NNman if he's reading, the americans are big on customer service doubt calmini will be happy.

I think I might do, and they still owe me a tire as I bought a set of 5 of them and when I got there, there were only 4 of them and was promised I would have one ASAP. But still nothing, all I ask is Why Me

If you're replacing the ball joints the easiest tool to use is the hammer in fork type, these usually split the gaitors so are no good if reusing the ball joint, but a half reasonable fork type splitter shouldn't cost too much under £10 over here, might push 20 euro over there, what with the exchange rate and Ireland being expensive. I you have trouble sourcing one I could send one back with my parents when they return to Castleknock, Dublin after the new year for them to post up to you, UK - Eire post is a rip off.

EDIT

Just had a look on ebay - they're even cheaper than I remembered - theres one HERE but theres loads more on there.

they did simlair to nnman think they hadnt got right wheels an then the welds failed or something like that wonder how many other disgruntled customers they got or are they not up on jap vehicles ?

Thank guys for all the help, just had a mechanic friend out to help me and got is sorted no problem, and found the reason why my front passenger tire was sitting at the top towards the engine, there is a little rubber bump stop which seems to have magically disappeared and unscrewed itself, since being at supertrux, so I wonder ???? made one up myself out of a bit of rubber untill I manage to get one somewhere. But thanks again folks and my T2 is now back on the road -welldone-

it shouldnt sit on bump stops though mate was it some kind shim to fetch suspension angle right like hb an toolbox were thinking judging from yours and nnman la supertrux not all they cracked up to be! get some photos to show la/trading standards what your on about picture speaks thousand words as they say!
