How much oil in sump, Engine. before light comes on


Dip stick low but always hard to check oil on T2


Worried low oil on dip

fortunately the T2 has a deep narrow sump and the puck up pipe goes deep so oil can be well off the stick but still have enough to run as long as not worked too hard, when you dip the oil look at both sides of the stick one side often gets contaminated by residue in the tube so it will be the lower one that is the level, if your light is coming on then change the switch as a first response if it still comes on then bad news, Rick

Last time I drove it was skegness back to yorkshire so hoping ok,Oil Light has never come on

Bottom of sump has a small leak just noticed WHILST WARMING UP, Top end sounds a little noisey but it could be me worrieing, I did think it was exhaust. sounds fine on tick over

If when starting from cold the light goes out within a couple of seconds then all should be fine but let the oil go lower than min and do a hard fast journey and you are inviting trouble, Rick

Sump can be changed with engine in, you need to drop the front diff, still quite a job though, Rick

if it is only a small drip I drain oil and weld it, Rick

yes best way to do it, filler and plastic rubbish will not last, the main detriment is the high temperature range, cold to hot, -4 to + 80 and with the different expansion rates of the two materials early failure will result, ok for a short term cure though, Rick

Speaking with my Garage Monday will ask them to drain brais or weld.

He did worn me at the MOT it looked rusty, I did clean lightly and painted with a Black paint seal product

The garage will likely suggest replacement (speaking from a garage point of view) When my oil was just below the low mark on the stick I noticed a sound difference when I filled to correct level :thumb2

Temp repair

Just repaired Sump not put oil in yet

Used Quick steel Epoxy putty Reviews say you can use with Oil still In sump.

I Drained cleaned with wire brush on drill then cleaned with Brake cleaner dryed, mixed putty large lip were the two halfs meet on the sump (Small line crack near drain plug side on bottom) so put good amount on, only 1/2 of the stick putty used looks ok

Used products before were there say it works time will tell not a big job but new oil,quick steel, cleaner, £ 25, Only cheap oil £15 in case it needs to be done again.

up-date pan leak

Oil in now looks ok done Two coats of black paint its tank paint used in large water tanks Bitchuman drys hard.

Now I will check oil weekly till feel confident.
