Ok have now changed maf sensor for one off my other t2 it did the same thing died slowly from around 60mph so I know the new maf is ok it works fine in the other t2. So that now leads me to egr valve tried the ball bearing thing that didnt work it still died took ball bearing out and on way back home power was better but still under powered, Have taken the egr valve off wot an ass to get to but me n me pal got it off have found that there is one gasket missing and where the other should have been it was gunked up with some sort of sealant that appears NOT to have done the job the valve does move when you press it also when ya suck on the pipe at the top of egr valve (i suggest if ya want to suck it dont clean it first it dont taste good) have now ordered 2 new gaskets from nissan at £8 + vat for the pair am now hoping this will do the job will let you know when its fitted fingers crossed parts in on weds mornin. So the question is if the seals/gaskets had gone in my case a bodge job by someone with sealant of some kind would that cause a loss of power primarily because it either sucking air in through where the gasket has failed or is non existant??
Well it isnt the seals it still looses power it usually does it around the 55-60 mph mark at 2500rpm so is it still the egr sticking or is it fuel related oh by the way a new egr valve from nissan dealers (wait for it are you sitting down) is £457 + vat OUCH!! any one know where i can get a cheap one from i will even try one from a breakers i am at my wits end dont know what to do HELP!!!!!!

cheers from a very disgruntled terrano owner boo hoo!!

Have you changed your fuel filter?

Have you checked to see if yours has a mini filter and whether it needs cleaning?

Are you getting any smoke or is it just power loss?

loss of power

hi there in answer to your question no i am not getting any black smoke or smoke of any undesirable kind and also I have not change the fuel filter I have looked for the banjo filter but mine does not seem to have one (please advise me why the fuel filter maybe causing me power loss as sometimes it does not occur.

cheers john.......

A partial blockage can limit the amount of fuel that can flow and thus the amount of power you get, blockage can come and go as stuff in the filter relaxs when you switch of an dits no longer held in place by suction from fuel pump can then reoccur later when it moves around.

They're not expensive and should be a service item anyway.

wot is it ??????????

Ok guys have now changed the fuel filter little bit of sediment type stuff in bottom of filter nothing that would suggest it causing a blockage? Took vehicle on a run yesterday to Norfolk 1hr halfs journey the vehicle died about half a mile into journey turned off ignition restarted vehicle and it never caused me another problem all the wy there. On way back it died on me twice but once you turn the ignition off and restart its fine, could there be a electrical sensor or some thing affecting the vehicle, had been told there is a turbo sensor switch or something that could be faulty or is the maf fualty? ( have put a new one in the car a few weeks ago ) apparently the turbo switch/sensor was a big fault on the mitsubishi L200 it would run fine then die of with loss of power until ignition was turned off and vehicle was restarted these were call back in for modification a friend had one with this problem which does seem similar to my problem any ideas anyone is there a turbo sensor on the terrano??

cheer john..............

is there a turbo sensor on the terrano??
Not that I know of.

It may be an idea to rig a boost gauge up and take it for a drive to check you are not losing turbo pressure; the waste gate may be sticking open.
The throttle potentiometer will also give a similar problem, but this is normally accompanied with the engine check light.

Do you ever get the engine check light on?

Toolbox
excuse I a quick thread hijack!
I have what sounds like the same problem. First thought it was the maf but new one made no diff.
My mav has the odd cough at tick over and then usually recovers, but sometimes just stops. On restart no probs:nenau
While driving it sometimes looses power and the MIL comes on. If I then close throttle and then give it some wellie again it seems to clear!
Could this be throttle pot or waste gate too?
Cheers:bow

you done the filters yet pete ???

id guess yours has a mini filter too, as you got the older tdi with hitachi maf
might be worth a bit of injector cleaner or run on kero for the day to give it a good clean out

or try pauls acid trick.
id say yours was fuel having heard it and driven it albeit stationary stuck in the woods

yours definitely don't have the kick mine has

Yep oil burning TDi:eek:
Forgot to say when the MIL is on there is a bit of smoke noticable if I'm stood still and pressing the loud peddle.
Cheers

Not the mini filter yet!
Had to do garden at weekend:dohBut main filter done.
What's the acid trick?

Wouldn’t think it was the waste gate, as this will not put the MIL on, as there is no pressure sensor in the inlet, the ECU just relies on the MAF to determine air flow. It may be your throttle potentiometer. Have you tried recovering the Fault code from the ECU?

Not yet but will have a go tomorrow. Is the workshop download for this in stupid speak?
Cheers

Yes its simple, you shouldn’t have any problems, just keep your eye on the light.:thumb2

ER Toolbox, if the MIL is not on will the ECU still have the fault stored on file?

Yes should be in there, cleared after 30 starts I think, if no recurrence of fault
