2nd hand If poss, off ebay etc

What should I be looking for ?

how many amps etc?

I'm thinking 100 amp gas mig welder ?

just for welding up to 4mm plate and bits and pieces on to chassis etc

what stuff do you plan to weld to the chassis?

Not sure yet, thin plate, or perhaps even 5mm+ thick mountings for a full sas conversion, depends how good i get at welding :lol

But 4mm walled box section say for starters

if your welding serious stuff like that get a proper welder.

if you want to practise something like 120-140a will do for 4mm ish

yes, a point that many fall down on though is the wire feed if this is a crap system then you will have nothing but trouble, most unfortunately now rely on plastic crap that is not up to the job long term, so remember to remove the tension after you finish each time or it will eventually become distorted and not be able to feed at the correct rate, Rick

Agreed, Rick

Anyone want to link me up, copy and paste ? £150 budget ish

we have a 150amp for car repairs(thin metal) and a 210 for roll cages when we get started but it'll blow holes in thin metal even on the lowest setting!

Iv been looking for a while for a new one too, iv got a 90Amp Pro and it very good for what iv used it for, now iv learned how to bloody weld.
But have been on the lookout for something around 180amp - 250amp for doing some heavey stuff. I was looking at welders hitting the £500 mark but could to justifiy spending that much for it to sit in the shed when iv finished with it. Dont say sell it, i never part with tools once iv got them, you never know when your going to need it again.:doh

Them sip ones are cheap, I know they are DIY but I've had loads of sip stuff over years, can't be too bad :nenau
