Hi All

Anyone any ideas of how to remove locking wheel nuts. Each wheel has one and the mechanic when he was last working on the car has lost the adapter. I'v tried Halfords and the local motor factors for an adaptor but cant find any.

Anyone know how to sort this!!!

Thanks
Lee

is day go the the worst area of town and ask a little " OIK" theyll soon nick your wheel ...

might be a bugger catching them though!

really though, its a Nissan thing, there are loads of diferent ones, but a new key should be posable.. at a price

Been there!!

If its a Nissan OEM one there are lots of variations and you need a code number (which was in the vehicle paperwork NOT on the nut) to get the right tool - very painful.

Otherwise its simple but might cost you socket (and its the only way).... find a socket thats won't quite fit over the locking nut - then hammer it on firmly (and I mean firmly) until you can loosen it off with the socket handle.

The nut will then be jammed in the socket, so simply put it over a vice or similar - with clearance so the nut can drop out underneath, then whack the nut from above (the end you put the socket handle into) with a suitable drift of some kind and hey presto, ready for the next one.

When I say it might cost you a socket, I mean that if you have a decent set they will cope, but if its a cheap socket it will eventually split from the abuse LOL, bt its cheaper than paying someone to do it!

you can buy locking wheel nut removal sockets they have a left hand thread inside and cut into the locking nut as you undo it, alternativley a hammer and small chisel works for me, you need to be very carefull not to damage the wheel though.

many thanks for all the replies. I like the look of tezzer's link so will probably buy this one.

Thanks all.

well when I said "the only way", I meant without spending money LOL

Also it depends what sort of locking wheel nuts you have on. Some have a colar that spins, the above tool or socket technique don't work till you've chiseled the collar off.

I sell the Trident tools linked to above. Have a set of 4 in stock so can supply any size and replace the relevant one later.
