Is it supposed to look like this?

Speedy responses appreciated as the car is in the air as we speak and if I can do anything I'd rather do it now than have to get the wheel off again.

Some of you may already know that this is rattling at low revs.

Cheers

im not a expert . , in fact i know less than nuffin , but to me it looks like summat is broken in that pic .:nenau

Right, I have been grubbing around under my terry and I can't find one, would the later ones have had it on still:nenau

Yours looks like it's had plenty of grease on it over the years, I bet if you cleaned it off, it would be easier to see :augie

Well I've just been and made a new friend who lives few mins away from me who I have noticed as just brought a LWB Maverick.

I jumped under his and his looks exactly the same however it rattles less, so I'm thinking it's probs working but looser than it should be

Just wondering how I would tighten that up as it isn't very obvious :(

Later ones didn't have this. It changes the braking bias depending on the weight in the back of the truck. Less weight in the back means more front bias. It's designed to help prevent the rear wheels locking when you brake hard.

In the later trucks (when ABS became standard) it's not needed since the ABS stops the rear wheels locking.

Well regardless I have confirmed that mine is working fine and isn't the source of the rattle.

I attached a bungee cord to the part which I thought was rattling and drove around holding the other end tight out of the window

It's really driving me mad now, it can only be 3 things i'm certain of it!!!

Fuel Tank Shield
Exhaust (80% sure it's not this)
Thin Aluminium Plate which sits central under the car as a kind of heat shield from the catalytic converter

The noise is really really really loud if I drive at about 25mph-30mph in 4th gear, it's driving me up the f*****g wall not knowing what it is, I wouldn't mind so much if I could actually say " O, that the _______ rattling again" :(

Are you sure it outside the car, it may be a bit of trim or the spare wheel holder, I would get someone to drive it while sitting in the rear and having a good look around. I have a noise in my car it turned out to be my passenger seat when no one is sat in it, it can be annoying, I will have a look at it one day

I know you have been looking for this for some time, so have probably checked this, but if you have the side steps, the infill panel on mine is a separate piece, but looks like it is actually part of the assembly. It is held in place by square headed bolts, which are in aluminium channels on the underside of the plate. On mine, the channel had worn away, and the metal plate was making an horrendous rattle against the step.

Luckily, mine started doing it when I shut the back door, so I found it.

No side steps but good idea and thanks for the info :)

Mine was doing the same, in fact only one bolt was holding, so drilled through and fitted bolts right through, don't rattle no more, Rick

A few years ago i watch a program on TV about a Londoner who set up a garage in Spain.

Someone brought in a big fancy 4x4 jeep and this had a rattle and it was driving him nuts. He said it was OK till he went off roading and after that its always rattled, so he guessed he broke something.

They had the truck on the ramps and set to work testing everything, but could not find anything broken or damaged, then just by luck the fitter put his hand into the side step bracket and sure enough found a small rock rattling about.

He removed the rock and the rattle was gone. Simple....

I know this has nothing to do with helping you, but i thought you may find it funny. :lol

Anyway, had had a rattle in mine and it turned out to be the jack in the rear wing had not been fitted correctly. Just needed a turn to tighten it up. :doh
