Hi Guys,

this weekend, i hope to get my new tailpipe and oil bits for the maverick, but i also want to do the Limited Slip Diff oil, engine oil and if possible, gear box oil.

im hoping you can provide me with a quick and easy guide for changing the oils, and some hints on which is the correct oils for each part (im unsure which LSD oil i need, or which is suitable gearbox oil/engine oil!)

do i need anything else for the gearbox/lsd oil change, in terms of washers??
I havent seen them for sale at Milners, so a bit confused..

hope you can help!

OILS from the manual:

Engine - API CE
Manual Gear Box - API GL-4
Transmission Box - API GL-4
Front Diff - API GL-5
Rear Diff - LSD API GL-5 80w90
Power Steering - Dexron

When I did my LSD I undid the filler first, then the drain but found it a pain in the ar*e to try refill! This was solved by using a squeezy ketchup bottle to 'squeeze' the oil in.

No washers or ought to change... I didnt anyways!

thansk for this, i think i understand what the numbers mean! just need to find soemwhere that sells it, i take it a normal motor factors will sell everything oil-wise?

i think i understand what you mean about filling the lsd, i suspect there isnt any "tilting" space for the bottle? if thats the case, ill buy some form of pump contraption or as you say, a squeezy bottle!

do you know how many litres of each oil is required?

I used "comma oils" the LSD came in litre bottles so you could squeeze it in... bri

look up Comma on google and it will give you the local dealer, dont forget to ask for trade price..

and if you warm the bottles in the sun or a bucket of hot water . it will fly in . its normally thick goo so warming is the way

thanks for the tips fellas, ill do the warm-up thing first. as for Comma oils, im pretty sure theres a motor factors near me that sells a brand comma make, so ill check there first!

Hi all,

Just posted question in Caravan section regarding my 2003 2.7 tdi as i changed diff oil recently and it only took 1.3 lts and my other tug 1997 takes 3lts, am i right in thinking that the later terranos do not have LSD.

I don't know, but to check, jack up the rear axle and turn 1 wheel, if the other goes the same way you have LSD, if opposite way then standard diff.
Regards, Rustic

No only do the late ones not have an LSD they have a completely different axle too which as you note takes a lot less oil.

Hi all,
I do apologise for hijacking your thread clivvy, but i was a bit concerned that the diff did not take 3ltrs only 1.3ltrs, and thanks for enlightening me on this.
